
The HKUST Institute for Financial Research - Macro-Finance Research Center is recruiting Research Assistants for a research team working on quantitative macro-finance. The role is an ideal stepping stone to a top PhD program and emphasizes numerical and machine-learning methods for solving macroeconomic and financial models.
Duration of appointment: 1-2 years (renewable)
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Implement and solve dynamic macro and asset pricing models using numerical and machine-learning techniques.
• Build, clean, and analyze large financial and macroeconomic datasets.
• Support active research projects and the Center's data infrastructure and reports.
Applicants should possess:
• Bachelor's or master's degree (completed or expected before start) in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong programming and numerical skills, ideally including machine-learning methods (Python, Julia, MATLAB, or similar).
• Solid foundation in econometrics and quantitative methods; strong attention to detail.
• Intention to pursue a PhD in finance or economics is a plus.
The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and fringe benefits, including annual leave and medical benefits, when applicable, will be provided. Mentorship and support for PhD applications provided.
