The HKUST Institute for Financial Research - Macro-Finance Research Center seeks one or more Post-Doctoral Fellows / Research Associates to join a research team working on quantitative macro-finance, with a strong emphasis on computational and machine-learning methods for solving and estimating macroeconomic and financial models.
Duration of appointment: 1-2 years (renewable)
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Develop and solve high-dimensional dynamic macroeconomic and asset pricing models using modern numerical and machine-learning techniques.
• Estimate structural and empirical models on large financial and macroeconomic datasets.
• Contribute to the Center's broader research activities, including drafting its annual report on the Chinese economy, building and maintaining the Center's data infrastructure, and supporting its other flagship publications.
• Help mentor junior research staff.
Applicants should possess:
• PhD (completed or expected before start) in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong numerical and computational skills, including machine-learning and deep-learning methods for solving dynamic models (e.g., neural-network solution methods, reinforcement learning, high-dimensional approximation).
• Advanced programming (Python, Julia, MATLAB, or similar) and experience with large datasets.
• Demonstrated capacity for independent, publishable research.
