Full Time - Patrol Sergeant

The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time - Patrol Sergeant at our Brenham Campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:

Job Summary

Responsible for the enforcement of the laws and departmental policy through effective supervision and the daily management assigned personnel.

Principal Accountabilities

• Patrol responsibilities, includes responding to calls for service and daily patrols of campuses assigned.
• Responsible for first line supervision of assigned personnel
• Examines and approves daily reports and coordinates work assignments.
• Keeps Lieutenant advised of the general conditions of the shifts.
• Disseminates administrative directives and policies and ensures implementation.
• Assist in the coordination of special events.
• Evaluates, counsels and advises subordinates.
• Prepares and forwards complete daily, weekly and monthly reports.
• Approves/disapproves all personnel leave requests.
• Responsible for the condition and the repair of all patrol equipment and vehicles.
• Responsible for all assigned personnel work performance.
• Evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel and forwards all evaluation to the Lieutenant.

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications

• Must be a current member of the Blinn College Police Department
• High school graduation or equivalent
• A minimum of 4 years experience as a police officer
• Intermediate TCOLE certification and/or Basic with ability to obtain Intermediate within 1 year of appointment.
• Have the ability to use a variety of police and clerical equipment.
• Have the ability to effectively communicate with all segments of the college.
• Be able to function under adverse stressful conditions.
• Successfully complete first line supervision course.
• No Disciplinary action within the past 12 months.

Minimum Competencies

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructors, staff, administration, students, the general public and outside agencies.
• Must possess strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
• State of Texas Class C driver license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced TCOLE certification
• Associate degree
• Previous first line supervision experience or mid-management level supervision.

Preferred Competencies

• Ability to operate patrol vehicle and assigned equipment
• Ability to navigate software used by the Blinn College District Police Department
