Towards the formation of the core group of founding faculty members, the school of computing and data sciences (SCDS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for full-time, non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice. Rank will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and professional accomplishments.
We seek accomplished professionals with substantial experience in computing, data science, artificial intelligence, and/or closely related fields, who can bring the depth of professional practice into a rigorous academic environment.
The Professor of Practice position is one embdodiement of the strategic vision of the school. The selected candidates will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education through both the development and delivery of practice-based courses, helping students connect strong academic foundations with consequential real-world problems. They will also contribute to project-based and experiential learning, student mentoring, and the broader evolution of practice-oriented curricula.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have led significant teams, projects, or initiatives and who can translate that experience into meaningful educational opportunities. Professors of Practice will also help build connections with industry, government, and other external organizations, bringing relevant problems, partnerships, and expertise into the School. As members of a new School at a formative stage, they will be expected to contribute actively to its intellectual, pedagogical, and institutional development through various activities inlcuding ones that connect the School with the broader technology and innovation ecosystem in Lebanon, the Mediterranean region, and beyond.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in computing, data science or a related discipline, together with significant professional experience and demonstrated expertise in their area of specialization. While the position is grounded primarily in professional practice, a record of research and publication would be a strong asset.
