The Infant Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, safe, and engaging classroom environment for mobile infants. This role requires a warm, responsive caregiver who understands early childhood development and is passionate about supporting infants during their most critical stages of growth.

Infant Teachers at The Goddard School implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum, maintain strong communication with families, and ensure all licensing and health regulations are met.

Key Responsibilities

Child Development & Curriculum

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with The Goddard School’s educational philosophy.
  • Support developmental milestones including motor skills, sensory exploration, language development, and social-emotional growth.
  • Engage infants through music, reading, sensory play, and hands-on exploration.
  • Maintain daily documentation of feeding, diapering, naps, and developmental observations.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary classroom environment at all times.
  • Follow all state licensing regulations and school policies.
  • Adhere to safe sleep practices and proper diapering and sanitation procedures.
  • Closely supervise infants to ensure their well-being.

Family Communication

  • Maintain open, positive, and professional communication with parents.
  • Provide daily reports and developmental updates.
  • Build trusting relationships with families and respond promptly to questions or concerns.

Team Collaboration

  • Work cooperatively with co-teachers and school leadership.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support a positive and respectful school culture.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience working with infants in a licensed childcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of infant development and early learning best practices.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in active caregiving throughout the day.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Work EnvironmentThis position requires frequent sitting on the floor, lifting infants, and engaging in hands-on activities. The Infant Teacher must be able to respond quickly to the needs of children in their care.
