Job Description

Charlotte’s Best Nanny Agency is assisting a family in Myers Park in finding a Full-Time Family Assistant for their 2-year-old daughter. The Family Assistant will typically be needed Monday–Friday, 12:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. Beginning in mid-spring 2027, the schedule will transition to Monday–Friday, 10:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

The family is seeking a gentle, nurturing, proactive, and highly dependable professional who enjoys both childcare and the household-management aspects of a true Family Assistant role. This individual will work in close partnership with a stay-at-home mom, with responsibilities naturally shifting between childcare and household support depending on the family’s needs throughout the day.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who notices what needs to be done, takes initiative, independently manages recurring responsibilities, and follows tasks through to completion without needing daily direction. The family values open communication and is looking for someone who is collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working as part of a team.

When providing childcare, the Family Assistant should bring a warm, creative, and developmentally appropriate approach. The family prioritizes engaging, screen-free activities such as arts and crafts, imaginative play, reading, singing, outdoor play, and Montessori-inspired learning that supports the child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

The Family Assistant should also enjoy planning and participating in community outings, including visits to The Bunny Hive, playgrounds, libraries, and other local activities and outdoor spaces.

This is a true Family Assistant position combining hands-on childcare with meaningful household support. The Family Assistant and Mom will work collaboratively throughout the day, with responsibilities shifting between childcare and household tasks based on the family’s needs. When the Family Assistant is solely responsible for the child, the child’s care and safety are always the first priority.

The family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping a household run smoothly and is comfortable taking ownership of recurring responsibilities rather than waiting to be assigned individual tasks. This includes partnering with Mom on family meal planning, grocery shopping, dinner preparation, laundry, organization, household errands, and maintaining the family’s daily routines.

This position is ideal for someone who values a collaborative, team-oriented environment and is excited to develop a long-term relationship with a family that may welcome a second child in the future.

Childcare Responsibilities Include:

  • Meeting the child’s daily needs, including meals, snacks, diapering/toileting, naps, dressing, and transitions
  • Engaging with the child at an age-appropriate developmental level
  • Planning and participating in creative, educational, and screen-free activities
  • Reading, singing, arts and crafts, imaginative play, and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Indoor and outdoor play and regular community outings
  • Helping maintain consistent routines and age-appropriate expectations
  • Keeping the child’s belongings, play spaces, and frequently used areas organized
  • Working collaboratively with Mom to anticipate the child’s changing developmental and scheduling needs

Family Assistant & Household Responsibilities Include:

  • Partnering with Mom to plan weekly family meals and dinners, including discussing menus and the family’s needs for the week
  • Grocery shopping and/or grocery pickup and helping ensure ingredients and frequently used household staples are stocked
  • Preparing family dinners and completing meal prep as needed
  • Managing family laundry from start to finish, including washing, drying, folding, hanging, and putting clothing away
  • Changing the child’s sheets weekly and assisting with other household linens as needed
  • Ironing when time allows
  • Loading and unloading the dishwasher and completing a daily kitchen reset, including wiping counters and putting items away
  • Maintaining and organizing the child’s toys, clothing, supplies, and play areas
  • Sanitizing frequently used toys and child surfaces as appropriate
  • Emptying the diaper pail and proactively restocking diapers, wipes, and other child supplies
  • Helping organize and maintain household spaces such as the pantry, children’s areas, closets, and other frequently used spaces
  • Noticing when frequently used household or child supplies are running low and communicating or restocking as appropriate
  • Assisting with household errands such as grocery pickup, returns, dry cleaning, or other routine family errands as needed
  • Helping prepare the household for family travel and assisting with unpacking and resetting the home after trips
  • General household tidying and resetting as time allows; this position does not include deep cleaning

Pets:

The family has a friendly Golden Retriever. The Family Assistant will be asked to let him outside as needed during working hours and provide occasional basic assistance such as refreshing his water.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional Family Assistant and/or nanny experience, with demonstrated experience managing household responsibilities
  • College degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • Ability to independently manage recurring household responsibilities and prioritize tasks
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Complete an online application
  • Pass a pre-screening interview with Charlotte’s Best Nanny Agency
  • Pass a national background check, including a driving record check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Safe and reliable transportation
  • Minimum of three professional references
  • Non-smoking/vaping
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
  • Up to date on childhood vaccinations and Tdap when a second child arrives

Start Date, Salary, and Benefits:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Legal pay of $28 per hour, depending on experience
  • Continued pay while the family is away (Guaranteed weekly hours, paid at 30 hours a week, unless hours shift to 40 permanently.)
  • The family travels over major holidays and may invite the Family Assistant to accompany them on some trips. Travel with the family would be discussed and agreed upon in advance, including the schedule, responsibilities, and compensation. All expectations regarding travel, PTO, and guaranteed hours will be clearly established in the employment agreement.
  • Two weeks of paid time off
  • Three paid sick days
  • Paid mileage for driving while on the job
  • Paid major holidays
  • Annual performance-based bonus
