Principle duties and responsibilities
1. Schedule appointments accurately and completes pre-registration including insurance verification of procedures for radiology, surgery, ancillary, respiratory therapy and other departments as assigned.
2. Coordinates multiple appointments.
3. Demonstrates positive customer service when greeting patients, care providers and others.
4. Complete precertification or check pre-certification authorization including medical necessity check procedures completed at LRHC for radiology, surgery, ancillary, outpatient clinic, and family medicine specialists.
5. Provides patient/family service instructions prior to appointment as directed by service department.
6. Verifies insurance eligibility for services, ensure payment for services by verifying benefits with the patients insurance and/or directing them to LRHC Financial Assistant representative when patient is self-pay.
7. Updates registration when patient information changes
8. Ensures provider order are in Electronic Health Record.
9. Checks voicemail and pools and responds to calls within a timely manner.
10. Receives physician orders for all scheduled Outpatient procedures and imports the order into the patients’ pre-registered electronic medical record.
11. Contacts “No Shows” on a weekly basis to reschedule their procedures.
12. Communicates scheduling concerns or problems to Centralized Scheduling Lead.
13. Maintain departmental policies and procedures manuals.
14. Notifies appropriate leader, clinic or provider if as Service Recovery is needed to resolve customer complaint/concern.
15. Participates in patient care activities that could include blood exposure and risk to bloodborne pathogens (eg: lacerations, handling of blood-contaminated specimens, etc.)
16. Responsible for ensuring the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
17. Ensure patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.
18. Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools (TeamSTEPPS, Just Culture, etc.).
19. Serves on various committees as assigned.
20. Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
21. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities
1. Ability to read, write and use basic computer and office equipment skills as is typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to protected and sensitive information.
3. Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
4. Ability to immediately respond to common inquires and complaints from patients, employees, and regulatory agencies.
5. Advanced communication skills to respond to inquiries from Insurance companies and Workman Compensation companies. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
6. Ability to read, write and use basic computer and office equipment skills.
7. Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precaution and transmission protocols and when to apply during principle duties and responsibilities.
Working conditions
1. Works in a normal office work environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature etc.
2. Sitting, walking, and/or standing for up to 90% of work time when doing Utilization Review, Preauthorizing Orthopedic and Urology surgeries and Mental Health Assessments, etc. Up to 20% of work time may push items weighing up to 50 pounds when assisting nursing staff if needed.
3. Exposure to chemicals and other hazards related to patient care. Appropriate safety precautions, such as safety glasses, gloves, etc. must be used to minimize risk of injury.
4. Direct exposure to body substances during patient care activities and on contaminated surfaces such as patient equipment.
