The role:

We are seeking a proactive and curious Back-End Engineer (Python) to join our Onboarding team and contribute to the development of Funding Circle’s credit application journeys.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a vital role in building and scaling our onboarding journeys, empowering businesses to access flexible financing solutions. Your passion for technology and your ability to solve complex problems will be instrumental in driving our mission forward.

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

• Collaborating in an agile, cross-functional team working closely with the business and customer acquisition goals
• Building, owning, and monitoring backend services in a microservices and event-driven architecture
• Working mainly with Python, AWS Lambda, Kafka, FastAPI, and AWS, with some exposure to React and occasional Ruby
• Delivering new features and services end to end, including greenfield work and building services from scratch
• Supporting business-critical systems where reliability, quality, and speed all matter
• Proactively identifying risks, issues, and improvements across the services the team owns

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

• Mid/senior level backend engineering experience, ideally with Python and FastAPI
• Experience with AWS, serverless architecture, microservices, and event-driven systems
• Knowledge of Kafka or similar messaging technologies
• Strong programming fundamentals, clean code, testing, and CI/CD practices
• Comfortable owning services in production, including monitoring, debugging, and improving reliability
• Open to touching React or Ruby when needed, while remaining backend-focused
• Able to build domain knowledge across multiple systems and communicate well with technical and business stakeholders
