Job Description

The Full Stack Development Intern will serve as a technical support for the Momentum R&D portfolio. This individual is responsible for transitioning research prototypes into scalable, cloud-native environments. The role focuses on primarily on automating the software development lifecycle, ensuring seamless code migrations to GitLab, containerizing complex application stacks, and orchestrating deployments within AWS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Code Migration & CI/CD Management:
    • Lead the migration of legacy and active research codebases from various sources to GitLab.
    • Architect and maintain robust GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, security scanning, and deployment.
    • Standardize version control practices across multiple R&D sub-teams.
  • Containerization & Orchestration:
    • Design and build optimized Docker/OCI-compliant containers for diverse research applications (e.g., Python-based AI models, web frontends, and data processors).
    • Manage container registries and ensure image security and versioning.
    • Implement orchestration strategies to ensure consistent environments from local dev to cloud.
  • AWS Cloud Operations:
    • Deploy and manage multi-tier applications across AWS services (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS).
    • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC), such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, to provision and manage cloud resources.
    • Monitor system health, performance, and cloud costs to optimize R&D resource usage.
  • Full Stack Development:
    • Develop and maintain responsive web interfaces and scalable backend services to support research tooling and pilot applications.
    • Integrate complex research algorithms into functional, user-facing platforms.
    • Collaborate with researchers to refactor "research-grade" code into "production-grade" software.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical Skills:
    • Languages: Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (React/Node.js), and Shell scripting.
    • Extra consideration given to applicants with RUST Language experience.
    • DevOps Tools: Expert-level knowledge of GitLab (Migrations, CI/CD, Runners).
    • Containers: Deep experience with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS preferred).
    • Cloud: Hands-on experience with AWS core services and Identity and Access Management (IAM).
  • Experience:
    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree that includes but is not limited to computer science or software engineering with a focus on Full Stack development and DevOps.
    • Demonstrated experience in large-scale code migration projects.
    • Experience supporting research or fast-paced prototyping environments is highly desirable.
    • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Professional Attributes

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams of researchers and developers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in troubleshooting complex environment mismatches.
  • Commitment to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
