Job Title: Chariton Fuel Tank Filler

Department: Traffic

Fuels tractors and reefer trailers.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Director, Truck Shop; Assistant Truck Shop Manager

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fuels Hy-Vee tractors at fuel island and fuels reefer trailers on the lot. 75%
  • Inspects vehicles and writes up worn or broken parts and makes minor repairs 10%
  • Fills propane cylinders for forklifts from bulk tank. 5%
  • Must follow DNR and EPA guidelines for handling of diesel fuel and cleaning up spills. 5%
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed and parts used. 5%
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: (These are considered occasional in nature)

  • Performs minor repairs to fueling equipment.
  • Cleans out company vehicles.
  • Cleans the fuel island area.
  • Cleans windshields.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies for drivers at the fuel island.
  • Receives fuel from fuel supplies and sign bill of lading.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions; deal with a few concrete variables.
  • Must be able to perform simple addition and subtraction; copying figures, counting and recording.

Education and Experience:

High School or equivalent experience. Valid driver’s license required.

Zero to one year of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to perform physical work: exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally and 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from 20 inches or less to 20 feet or more with or without correction depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are performed in an outdoor setting. There is exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals or solvents, and electrical shock.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Company pick-up truck, shag, computer, 2-way radios, diesel and propane pumps and tractors. Standard hand tools and equipment used for vehicle maintenance.
