Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) is a collaboration of police forces working to keep people safe from terrorism, the network stretches across the UK. We work alongside partners to foil terrorist plots and bring perpetrators to justice, protect people who are vulnerable to radicalisation; and remind the public to be vigilant and report concerns.
Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM) are currently looking for a Communications Manager to cover maternity leave.
The role is hybrid, and you will spend time working from our modern offices near to Birmingham Airport, with some working from home permitted. On occasions, you may also need to travel to locations across the West Midlands region and to London for the role.
You’ll work Monday to Friday between 8am to 4pm, but an element of flexibility is necessary to meet business needs.
The role
Communications play a vital supporting role to our Counter Terrorism operations, we need a confident professional who can communicate the work we do in a compelling and reassuring way. You will work across multiple communications platforms, in collaboration with our four regional forces as well as Counter Terrorism Policing HQ’s communications team. You will convey crucial public safety information which influences and encourages the public, businesses and other stakeholders to play their part in stopping terrorism.
You will define and implement internal and external communications strategies for priority programmes and projects that contribute directly to CTPWM’s mission to protect the public from terrorism. You will work closely with colleagues across the national CTP network, as well as with senior management. Your primary goal will be to ensure that our key audiences have the information they need, when they need it. You will be a positive advocate for communications as a profession, and you will provide your expertise and support to key stakeholders, and play an active role in building the communications profession within CTPWM, including attending and presenting at conferences.
You will be part of a highly motivated communications team; and be able to draw on your own personal experience and initiative to plan and deliver communications that support wider organisational and operational objectives, policy and operational response.
Key Responsibilities
To work with CTU SLT and the Senior Communications Manager in the development and implementation of effective communications in support of the components of the CTU Business Plan.
To work closely with CTPHQ and regional Forces (West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Mercia Police) providing the link between regional and local Counter Terrorism (CT) communication and campaigns.
Skills and competencies
Essential
Experience of developing, distributing and evaluating impactive internal and external corporate communications for a wide range of audiences.
Strong understanding of a range of communications disciplines and channels, and ability to use expert knowledge to plan and adapt the chosen approach.
Ability to build effective working relationships across a full range of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong understanding of digital platforms, social media management and the ability to use tools such as CMS and analytics.
Strong communications skills and the confidence to deliver presentations and advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work on your own, using your initiative as well as being able to work as part of a team.
The ability to work well under pressure, manage individual workload and ensure all deadlines are met.
Desirable
Experience working in a busy communications / marketing environment
Experience of operating in a policing or public sector communications environment
Experience in similar role with a recognised professional qualification
Effective project management skills
Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud programmes, specifically Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Experience with Orlo social media management platform
Security Clearance
