Job Description

The ideal candidate will work with the Youth and Teen Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator to monitor and work with program participants in both the Ticonderoga Teen Center as well as the Silver Bay Summer Camp. The Silver Bay Summer camp runs May-August, The Ticonderoga Teen Center Sept-May.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Essential Functions Part 1: Teen Center

  1. Able to work with a flexible weekly program that offers a variety of activities from lock-ins (overnights), dances, and leadership development for youth ages 13 to 18.
  2. Leads and takes part in physical, social and educational activities offered to participants at the Teen Center.
  3. Assists with Leaders Club, helps lead regular meetings with values activities, execution community of service projects, and chaperone teens to YMCA Teen Leaders Club Northeast Regional Rallies.
  4. Participate in training of emergency procedures and other activities scheduled by the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  5. Maintain Silver Bay YMCA’s commitment to customer service by being punctual, prepared for programs, and friendly to staff, youth and their parents/guardians.
  6. Responsible for monitoring participant sign-in/sign-out and knowing where participants are at all times.

Essential Functions Part 2: Silver Camp

  1. Helps implement YMCA character development goals for Silver Camp.
  2. Assists in the implementation of programs and activities at Silver Camp that foster the physical, social and intellectual growth of campers.
  3. Takes part in physical, social and educational activities offered to Silver Camp attendees.
  4. Enforces required staff-to-camper ratios, assists with swimming activities as needed.
  5. Ensures site cleanliness in all areas utilized by Silver Camp attendees.
  6. Communicates clearly and courteously with staff, parents, volunteers and children.
  7. Notifies supervisor of necessary repairs needed on any equipment utilized by Silver Camp attendees.
  8. Performs other duties, as requested.
  9. As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays to serve our members, guests, and program participants.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in implementing fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate programs for youth and teens preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents who represent a diverse community.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to enforce rules in a professional and positive manner is a must.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or willingness to be certified.
  • Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training is required within 14 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time to work at the computer or facilitate group activities. Must have the ability to adjust to effectively relate to each child. Other physical requirements may include reaching, kneeling, and the ability to lift 15 pounds.
