Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE

The Custodian will assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment in and around the supportive housing facility by performing a variety of cleaning, landscaping, and minor interior/exterior maintenance duties. They will work alongside other staff to assist residents with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.

Our Supportive Housing program provides safe and secure housing and wraparound support to people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. This program offers 24/7 support services that are tailored to the self-identified needs and goals of each resident.

STATUS
Unionized. The position is temporary, for one year or until the current incumbent resumes the role.
HOURS (35 HOURS PER WEEK)
• Sunday to Thursday: 0900 to 1600

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
As a Custodian, your responsibilities will include:
• Performs routine cleaning of the building and grounds including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, scrubbing, and vacuuming
• Cleans and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, washrooms, mattresses, and blinds
• Cleans external areas such as entrance ways, sidewalks, and parking lots to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse
• Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous materials
• Maintain safety standards are established and ensured for the building and preventative maintenance tasks are performed
• Maintains lawns and yards as per guidelines and performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks
• Monitors maintenance and housekeeping supplies
• Follows all relevant Connective policies, procedures, and guidelines
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• At least Grade 10 level education and/or equivalent with related experience
• Experience in performing minor maintenance on buildings, grounds, furniture, electrical fixtures, and plumbing.
• Preferably experience working with adults with complex behavioral and mental health challenges and/or with problematic substance use
• Experience in establishing and maintaining a collaborative and positive relationship with residents and other staff
• Ability to manage time efficiently, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with contractor
• Strong communication skills (listening, verbal, and written)
REQUIREMENTS
• Building Service Worker Certificate and/or vocational training is preferred
• Experience in a Custodian role (an asset)
• Ability to successfully complete Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records
• Ability to successfully pass a reference check
• Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (please refer to the Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafe)
• Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirement
COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $23.70. This position is also eligible for benefits as per our collective agreement.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
