Plumbing Draftsman – Job Description

A
Plumbing Draftsman
is responsible for preparing detailed plumbing drawings and layouts for residential, commercial, industrial, and high-rise building projects. The role involves creating accurate shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings in accordance with project specifications, local authority regulations, and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  Prepare detailed plumbing shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting software.
• 
  Develop water supply, drainage, stormwater, sewage, and irrigation layouts based on approved designs.
• 
  Coordinate plumbing drawings with architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
• 
  Ensure drawings comply with local authority regulations, project specifications, and applicable plumbing codes.
• 
  Review consultant drawings and prepare detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
• 
  Modify and update drawings based on consultant comments and site requirements.
• 
  Prepare material take-offs (MTO) and support quantity estimation.
• 
  Assist project engineers and site teams by providing technical drawing support.
• 
  Maintain drawing revisions, documentation, and project records.
• 
  Attend coordination meetings and resolve drawing-related issues.

Required Skills:

• 
  Proficiency in AutoCAD (mandatory).
• 
  Knowledge of plumbing systems, water supply, drainage, sewerage, stormwater, and irrigation systems.
• 
  Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• 
  Familiarity with local authority standards and plumbing codes.
• 
  Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• 
  Attention to detail and ability to work under project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• 
  2–5+ years of experience as a Plumbing Draftsman in MEP or construction projects.
• 
  Experience in residential, commercial, high-rise, and industrial building projects.
• 
  Knowledge of Revit MEP or BIM software is an added advantage.
