Job Description
The Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater (REDCAT), seeks a Front of House Manager for its space located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex in downtown Los Angeles. REDCAT is a multidisciplinary arts center that presents innovative artists who create works in the performing, visual and media arts. The theater features programming in music, dance, theater, and film. The Lounge is a welcoming and inclusive gathering point for a community of audiences as well as artists, with hours that accompany the performances. This 28 hour-per-week position reports to the Deputy Director; Finance & Operations to ensure compliance with house policies and acts on behalf of audience experience, care, hospitality, and safety. The Front of House Manager is present at every performance, manages bar staff, while also working closely with the Front of House team to ensure a streamlined night-of-show experience for patrons.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages house and front-of-house operations and procedures to ensure audience comfort and care for REDCAT evening performances.
- Monitors audience during performance and attends to audience flow and seating in accordance with stage management.
- Recruits, coordinates, trains, and supervises REDCAT’s volunteer ushers.
- Generates reports detailing front of house activity and house-count tallies.
- Manages clean-up and lock-down of public spaces at the end of each performance.
- Serves as a spokesperson for REDCAT and its programming.
- Manages operations of REDCAT Lounge retail sales, including food, coffee/espresso beverages, and spirits, during performances.
- Manages special receptions and events in coordination with REDCAT management.
- Monitors food and labor costs to meet established projections, and maximize revenue through menu expansion and development, product selection and pricing, and catering revenues.
- Ensures consistent and accurate cash handling, and daily/monthly inventory and sales reports; coordinate with Deputy Director; Finance & Operations on customer invoicing and monthly reports.
- Manages hourly bar staff, including hiring, training, scheduling and performance evaluations.
- Orders inventory and supplies, working with various vendors
- Maintains Lounge equipment; ensures compliance with health regulations for food and alcoholic beverage service, maintaining excellent customer service standards, consistent quality product and variety, and professional presentation of the Lounge.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule consisting mainly of evenings and weekends
- Ability to lead, supervise and motivate staff, while working effectively as part of a team
- Excellent customer service skills, ability to work under pressure, and creative problem solving skills
- Interest in the contemporary arts
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working within event audience services and food/beverage operations
- Substantive restaurant/bar managerial or supervisory experience
