Job Description
At Relative Dynamics we value knowledge as a process rather than knowledge as an answer. Founded in 2011 our goal is to define the new space era by continuously pushing the boundaries of engineering models services and technology development. Visit us at www.relativedynamicsinc.com.
Relative Dynamics is a subcontractor supporting Commercial Space contract. In this role, you will be employed by Relative Dynamics and assigned to work on projects in support of Commercial Space project. This position is remote.
As a Front-End UI/UX Engineer you will build the mission-operations interfaces that enable real-time control of our spacecraft and launch vehicles. Operators depend on these applications for commanding, telemetry visualization, anomaly response, and situational awareness across the full mission lifecycle.
This is primarily a front-end engineering role—you will develop high-quality, performant UI components and full application views using React, Redux, TypeScript, and modern web technologies. But we are also seeking someone who brings a designer’s eye for usability, layout, and workflow clarity. You should be comfortable gathering input from operators, translating mission workflows into user flows or wireframes, and shaping the UI experience before implementing it.
What You’ll Get to Do:
- Develop modern, responsive, and polished mission-operations UIs using React, Redux, TypeScript, and related technologies.
- Translate operator workflows and abstract requirements into user flows, wireframes, and intuitive UI behaviors.
- Collaborate with mission operators, GNC/FSW engineers, and systems engineers to understand operational use cases and constraints.
- Implement interfaces for telemetry visualization, command authoring, system health monitoring, timelines, alerts, and real-time data displays.
- Ensure that UI components are reusable, maintainable, well-tested, and optimized for real-time or high-volume data.
- Refine the visual and interaction design of critical workflows—even in the absence of a formal design system.
- Conduct lightweight user testing and incorporate operator feedback into UI and workflow improvements.
- Work closely with backend and DevOps teams to integrate with APIs, WebSockets, and streaming data sources.
- Participate in code reviews, front-end architecture discussions, and continuous improvement of UI development practices.
What You’ll Need:
Required
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of professional experience developing front-end web applications.
- Strong proficiency in React, Redux (or other state management), TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Ability to design UI workflows and produce wireframes or prototypes when needed.
- Experience building user interfaces for complex, data-dense, or real-time systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of interaction design principles and how they influence implementation choices.
- Experience collaborating directly with users or operators to gather feedback and refine UI behavior.
- Familiarity with front-end testing, performance optimization, and modern build toolchains.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to operate in a cross-disciplinary environment.
Desired
- MS in Computer Science, HCI, Design Engineering, or related field.
- Experience designing or implementing operational interfaces for aerospace, robotics, industrial systems, or other safety-critical domains.
- Knowledge of real-time visualization libraries or telemetry display patterns.
- Experience with GraphQL, WebSockets, or real-time streaming frameworks.
- Exposure to usability testing methods and heuristics.
- Comfort with light visual design work in tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Prior experience building tools for mission operations or control centers.
Who You Are:
- A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- A quick learner who is always ready to gain depth of knowledge
- A reliable worker who knows the importance of showing up when it counts
- Accept assignments with open cooperative positive and team-oriented attitudes
- Able to plan and execute plans across teams
- Effective communicator both written and verbal
What You'll Enjoy:
- Competitive wage and benefits package
- Medical, dental, vision and life/disability insurance
- Vacation and paid holidays
- Tuition reimbursement
- Great 401k with company match
- Employee referral program
- Community involvement investing and giving back to the community
