For our operation in Congo we are looking for a French speaking Master on board of our AHTS fleet, consisting of Damen Stan tug 3213. In this role you are overall responsible to ensure the vessel is operated in a safe and efficient way at all times. The Master will ensure the vessel is operated in accordance with all relevant national and international legislation as well as implement and adhere to the Smit Lamnalco Integrated Management System (SLIMS) and client specific requirements. Furthermore the Master will ensure there is a smooth and professional relationship with the client. Finally the Master will instruct and encourage his crew to work safely and lead by example.

Job Responsibilities:

  • That the vessel remains within compliance of the requirements of all applicable rules, laws, regulations, guidelines and practices of good seamanship at all times and maintains a high standard of housekeeping throughout the vessel.
  • To ensure that SLIMS is followed and maintained with particular emphasis on the correct use and application of PPE, safety equipment, Check-lists and all other safety precautions relating to job and task performance with particular emphasis on the protection of the environment and pollution prevention.
  • To ensure planned maintenance is executed as per MARAD (planned maintenance system on board).
  • Issue appropriate clear written or verbal orders and instructions.
  • Report and manage incidents, non-conformity, hazardous situations, near misses, and any other relevant event.
  • Maintain in good order all shipboard files, certificates and records, including the company and vessel logbooks.
  • Ensure that the navigational watch keeping regimes and practices, including those related to security, are maintained at all times as per company standing orders.
  • Ensure that the cargo is properly and safely loaded, stowed, secured and discharged so as at no time to endanger the crew, property, the environment or the vessel, particularly stability.
  • Ensure that the vessel has sufficient stability in all operations. Always refer to and take into account the Stability Booklet, class Rules and flag State legislation.
  • Ensure that all work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner at all times, with care to allow crew members sufficient time for rest periods in accordance with the STCW 78 (as amended) Convention guidelines and MLC 2006.
  • Complete and forward as applicable, operational reports and other operational documentation and provide a handover report to the reliever upon completion of tour of duty and or when change of command is required.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication is maintained by telephone and email.
  • Have the required number of defined annual inspections conducted and reports produced in a timely fashion in line with prevailing procedures.
  • Ensures the vessel supplies, medicine chests and related stores and equipment are maintained within expiry dates and in good order.

Qualifications

  • COC < 3000GT and above preferred.
  • Conventional, twin screw (Classic propulsion) tug experience for 2 + years as a Master.
  • Experience should include terminal operations (tanker berthing), barge handling, offshore supply/cargo runs and anchor handling.
  • Experience on AHTS vessels ranging from 400GT-700GT preferred.
  • Team player, able to engage and cooperate at all organizational levels.
  • Fluent French speaker.
  • Minimum 2 months training on site prior taking up command of a vessel and successfully being assessed by the client.
  • Excellent communication skills in both French & English
