Job Description

About us:

Street Child is a charity dedicated to empowering some of the most vulnerable children in the world by giving them the chance to go to school and giving their families the sustainable means to keep them there. There’s never been a better time to get behind our cause; we are an ambitious and exciting international development charity and this is your chance to be a part of an incredible fundraising adventure!

At Street Child, we are very lucky to have fantastic volunteers committed, keeping overheads low so that as much funding as possible can go to our projects in West Africa and Asia. We are currently looking for a full time (33 hours/week) French intern to join us in our Barcelona office. The preferred internship duration is 6 months; however shorter durations can be discussed.

Street Child embraces skills diversity among interns and we are more than happy, according to our current needs, to craft tasks depending on the personal qualities of the intern and/or give the intern freedom to apply his/her personal skills.

Key Tasks:

You will be part of a small team led by the Street Child EU Development Manager. Below are some examples of your responsibilities but you will spend 60% of your time on the first 2 tasks:

  • Fundraising research: find new funding prospects including trusts, foundations and major donors in France, and contact them.
  • Foundations proposal writing: write funding proposals for trusts and foundations using knowledge of previous, current, and upcoming Street Child projects. This will involve in-depth research about the geographical, political, and local situations of the country. It will give you the chance to gain precise knowledge about the contexts of the countries we work with.
  • Marketing and Communications: promote local and international events, update the website, and create content for our socials.
  • Administrative tasks: support day-to-day tasks for the "association de loi 1901" Street Child France.
  • Business development: build and manage collaborations and partnerships with other organizations and companies.
  • Volunteer coordination and event management: manage the existing volunteer base and help recruit new volunteers to the network. Support planned events and develop new ideas.

What are the benefits of an internship at Street Child?

The internship is unpaid but you will gain valuable experience for your CV through working on a wide variety of tasks and through regularly provided training sessions, giving you the chance to improve both your professional and personal skills. We also provide assistance in applying for grants like Erasmus+.

As Street Child is still a fairly new organization, you will have greater responsibility than in other internships and you will have the chance to make a big impact for a great cause. Moreover, by working with a young, dynamic and international team, you will meet culturally diverse people and have the opportunity to practice different languages.

We also give importance to supporting and professionalizing interns by providing regular feedback, guidance, and opportunities for skill development, ensuring a structured and enriching learning experience throughout the internship.

Requirements:

Key characteristics:

  • Self-motivated
  • Pro-active and innovative thinking with the ability to use your initiative and work independently.
  • Interest in the non-profit sector and in Street Child’s mission. A willingness to be flexible, have fun and enjoy a laugh with the team!

Areas of University studies:

  • Include but are not limited to marketing, international relations, human rights, development, economics or global affairs.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with professional manner via telephone and email.
  • A native French level and professional English skills are required.
  • Spanish is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the web, social media and Microsoft Office will be needed.
  • Providing a letter of recommendation from a previous professional experience is a plus.

When applying:

Street Child welcomes applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their nationality, gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

About Street Child

Street Child works to see all children kept safe, in school and learning—especially in low resource environments and emergencies.

Our vision is a world where it is seen as unacceptable for a child not to be in education. But today there are 250 million school-aged children around the world who are not in education. Millions more children are in school but failing to learn.

Street Child believes that education is a fundamental right and achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step toward eliminating the inequality gap and global poverty.

We go to places where others don’t go, where we seek out remote, hard-to-reach, fragile and disaster-affected states that are forgotten about and ignored. It’s in these contexts where our pragmatic and cost-effective approaches can make a real difference to a child’s future.

Street Child works to remove the complex social, economic and structural barriers to education wherever they lie. We are there to close the gaps through which the most marginalised children can slip. Our work includes not only building schools and training teachers but also protecting children and livelihood support for caregivers to ensure they can afford the cost of their children’s education.

Wherever we work, we partner with local organisations and communities which allows us to be responsive and nimble. We use simple, low-cost and replicable solutions that allow us to create maximum impact for the most children.

We started out supporting 100 street-connected children in Sierra Leone in 2008. Since then, we have impacted one million marginalised children in over 25 countries around the world.
