🛠️ Department Description and responsibilities
This role is part of offshore cable installation activities within the offshore energy sector, covering complex operations for inter-array and export cables on board specialized installation vessels.
As Cable Lay Superintendent, you oversee cable-related offshore operations and ensure that installation activities are executed safely, efficiently and in line with quality requirements.
🛠️ Primary Tasks and responsibilities
- Ensure all cable-related operations are carried out in the safest and most efficient way.
- Lead a team of 10 to 15 crew members, including foremen and operators.
- Conduct shift handover meetings with the onboard team.
- Coordinate closely with colleagues on the bridge and with surveyors to support smooth cable operations.
- Manage and supervise all back-deck activities, including the operability of the cable installation system (CIS), ROVs, cranes and other onboard equipment.
- Ensure all work is performed to the highest safety standards.
- Safeguard cable integrity during loading, transport and installation phases.
- Maintain a daily log of completed activities.
- Oversee the cable installation process, ensuring accurate and secure cable placement while maintaining high quality and performance standards.
- Use your technical expertise to identify and solve complex issues during cable installation, ensuring continuity of the works.
- Maintain daily operational contact with client representatives to answer questions on progress and technical matters.
📝 Your profile
- You have at least 7 years of experience in submarine cable installation, including experience in a senior technician role or a similar function.
- You have a strong safety mindset and consistently follow safety procedures and guidelines.
- You bring proven leadership skills and communicate effectively with a diverse offshore team.
- You have solid communication skills.
- You have good knowledge of and practical experience with MS Office.
- You have a good command of English, both spoken and written.
- You are fit for offshore work.
- Knowledge of SAFe is an asset.
- Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
✅ Methodology/Certification requirements
- MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent through experience.
