Job Description

Office of Family AssistanceThe Office of Family Assistance (OFA) provides policy, operational, technical assistance and training support for safety net programs that assist low-income Ohioans. This includes: ​​​​​Cash assistance programs funded by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Block Grant, including Ohio Works First (OWF) and the Prevention Retention and Contingency (PRC) programs; Food assistance programs including, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Program, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP); Program Integrity; and Adult Protective Services. Learn more about the office by visiting the Office of Family Assistance webpage.​What You Will DoThis position plays a critical role in safeguarding program integrity by independently investigating allegations of fraud, misuse, and other violations within Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and related public assistance programs. The successful candidate will conduct thorough complaint screenings, gather and evaluate evidence, collaborate with legal and law‑enforcement partners, and prepare detailed investigative reports to support administrative or criminal action. This role also contributes to the development of investigative procedures, supports statewide fraud‑prevention initiatives, and partners across agencies to address emerging issues such as skimming and scamming activities.Review fraud referrals and reports of skimming and/or scammingConduct investigations of reported SNAP and/or TANF fraudInterview recipients, providers, and/or other third parties related to a fraud referralCalculate claims and enter into appropriate tracking or eligibility systemDetermine if claims meet the definition of intentional fraudCreate and maintain claims related documentationMonitor claims for recoupmentMonitor key fraud indicator, high balance, and duplicate address reports and conduct additional investigation or refer to county as neededMonitor and analyze skimming and scamming data Retrieve skimming devicesFacilitate fraud related discussions across multiple teamsComplete special fraud related activities as neededOther duties as assignedRecommended SkillsExperience in reviewing SNAP and/or TANF fraud casesCustomer service skills (important in interviewing customers)Ability to access and read case data in the Ohio Benefits and Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)Must be detail oriented and well organizedMust possess efficient time management and multi-tasking skillsMust be able to work independently as well as collaborate across multiple teamsSchedule: Part-time.Hours: Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Qualifications

The candidate, at minimum, must have the following:Option 1:Completion of associate core program in law enforcement, criminal justice or in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file;AND12 mos. exp. conducting investigations &/or inspections; ANDValid driver’s license. Option 2:Or 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. as Investigator Assistant, 26210 with experience corresponding to type of complaints & alleged violations appearing in job posting/approved position description; ANDValid driver's license. Option 3:Or 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. investigative exp. with experience corresponding to type of complaints & alleged violations appearing in job posting/approved position description;ANDValid driver's license. Option 4:The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
