Who We Are
Modulr is the payments automation platform that streamlines money movement with accuracy, control and reliability — built to scale. We process more than 200m transactions and over £180bn in payment value on an annualised basis, and we’re trusted by over 6,000 businesses from fast-growing SMEs to global enterprises.
We automate how money moves into and out of a business — payroll, supplier payments, spend management and payment collection — through a single platform, connected to the accounting and payroll systems finance teams already use and underpinned by principal memberships of Visa and Mastercard and direct access to central bank infrastructure.
As a regulated payments provider with over a decade of experience, we’re the platform finance teams trust to run mission-critical operations. Modulr is backed by PayPal, FIS, General Atlantic, Blenheim Chalcot, Frog Capital and Highland Europe, with over 400 employees across London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Mumbai and Pune.

Purpose of the Role
The FP&A Manager is a senior member of the FP&A team, responsible for owning significant areas of planning, forecasting, performance management and decision support.
This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who can take complex or loosely defined financial problems, turn them into structured workstreams and deliver high-quality solutions with limited oversight.
A key measure of success will be taking end-to-end ownership of important FP&A projects, models and processes, materially reducing the need for the Director of FP&A to remain involved in their design, build and day-to-day operation. The role has no direct reports, but is expected to provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring across the FP&A team.

Key Responsibilities
Planning and forecasting

  • Jointly lead significant elements of the annual budget and planning process alongside the Director of FP&A.
  • Own and improve forecasting methodology, models and processes across FP&A.
  • Challenge assumptions and hold FP&A and business stakeholders accountable for forecast quality and agreed actions.

Financial modelling and analysis

  • Build and own complex financial models across revenue, costs, headcount and other business drivers.
  • Translate complex business questions into clear financial analysis and decision support.
  • Ensure models are robust, scalable, well controlled and capable of being operated by others.

Business partnering and decision support

  • Act as a proactive Finance partner to LT-1 leaders and their teams.
  • Ensure spend managers are aware of their budget responsibilities and approval processes.
  • Consistently and relentlessly enforce spending discipline across the business.

FP&A transformation

  • Take end-to-end ownership of significant FP&A projects.
  • Lead the use of automation, AI and improved data processes.
  • Build solutions that become embedded in normal business activity and free the FP&A team capacity for high-value work.

Performance management

  • Own and improve key elements of FP&A management information.
  • Focus reporting and analysis on underlying drivers of performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure senior stakeholders understand what has happened, why it has happened and what action is required.

Team leadership and development

  • Guide and mentor junior colleagues through complex financial and analytical work.
  • Delegate elements of projects, review outputs and help raise standards across the team.
  • Share knowledge and build repeatable approaches that increase overall FP&A capability.

Person Specification
Essential

  • Operate independently, seeking guidance only on the most significant issues.
  • Take ownership of outcomes.
  • Build scalable solutions.
  • Grip ambiguous problems by developing clear plans and recommendations.
  • Lead complex projects involving multiple contributors and stakeholders.
  • Influence decisions beyond the immediate FP&A team.
  • Strong financial modelling capability.
  • Deep understanding of budgeting/forecasting, variance analysis, performance management.
  • Demonstrable experience independently owning complex financial models and business processes.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely.

Desirable

  • Qualified (or close to qualification) as an ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant.
  • Experience within financial services.
  • Experience using AI to improve Finance processes.
  • Knowledge of the payments industry.

What success looks like

  • Senior business leaders see FP&A as a stronger and more valuable partner in decision-making.
  • Significant FP&A projects, models and processes are independently owned without requiring close involvement from the Director of FP&A.
  • Forecasting, analysis, and financial challenge become more disciplined and decision-useful.
  • Manual FP&A activity is reduced through better processes, automation and AI.
  • The wider FP&A team becomes more capable through coaching, delegation and stronger ways of working.
