Job Description

What you will be doing

  • Read work orders or production schedules to determine specifications, such as a part number, selects alloys and heat numbers, number of materials to be melted, appropriate oven time and temperature, and the foundry method to be followed.
  • Verifies incoming metal shipments; stores metal and ensures weight accuracy of all materials/ orders prior to processing in the foundry.
  • Perform furnace, system and equipment checks; ensure required ladles are available; ensure the temperatures of the pre-heat furnaces meet specifications; and make changes to the controller settings as deemed necessary.
  • Determine crucible size for shells being cast; identify alloy grade and melt practice to be used; determine pouring parameters and adhere to the melt procedures.
  • Fill furnace with metal and observe the melting process so as to avoid damage to equipment and personnel.
  • Skims slag from surface of molten metal in the furnace, using hand strainer.
  • Read temperature gauges and observe color changes, adjusting electrical heating units as necessary to melt metal to specifications.
  • Responsible for the deoxidization procedure for ferrous alloys.
  • Draw smelted metal samples from furnaces or kettles for analysis and calculate types and amounts of materials needed to ensure that materials meet specifications.
  • Completes records and reports as required to record production data and maintain production logs.
  • Operate controls to move or discharge metal work pieces from furnaces.
  • Follow and maintain metallurgical and foundry quality standards.
  • Finish the assigned work in the allotted time and maintain the production levels.
  • Use computer programs to record accurate data / follow router/ achieve rates established or notify lead person for effective communication.
  • Inspect and report product or equipment defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Report any accident occurred in the plant related to person, equipment, material or any other to the Production Supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Employee Handbook and adhere to proper code of conduct while in the company property.
  • Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner and comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by your supervisor.

Requirements

What you will bring to the team: · High School Diploma or equivalent is required unless prior work experience is felt to be an acceptable substitute· Previous melt experience is highly desirable, but we will train the right candidate.· Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.· Occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear· Regularly & frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
