The Role
SubHub is looking for a Founding Software Engineer focused on Spatial Systems to own and build the core geometry and quantity logic of our platform. This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys deep technical problems, wants direct access to decision-makers, and is excited to define foundational systems from the ground up.

You’ll work on translating complex construction drawings into reliable quantities, building engine-like spatial systems that handle real-world edge cases, numerical stability, and messy geometry. As the company grows, there is an opportunity to help shape and eventually lead a broader engineering team.

What You’ll Do

  • Solve complex geometry and quantity problems in construction, such as wall surface areas, paint volumes, and excavation quantities from grading plans

  • Build mathematically sound spatial systems that produce estimator-ready outputs

  • Design and implement robust geometry algorithms with real-world tolerance handling

  • Build upon and help define SubHub’s Python 3 and AWS-based tech stack from scratch

  • Collaborate closely with a Senior Construction Estimator to ensure solutions align with real construction practices

  • Operate as a hands-on individual contributor with significant ownership over core systems

  • Help shape the technical direction of the product and engineering organization as the company scales

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience building or working deeply on spatial systems, game engines, physics engines, or VR/AR tooling

  • Strong background in spatial reasoning, geometry, or engine-like systems

  • Experience at companies such as Unity, Riot Games, Ubisoft, Roblox, Epic Games, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft Gaming, EA, or Blizzard Entertainment

  • Proficiency in Python or C++

  • Hands-on experience with polygon operations including union, intersection, offsetting, winding rules, and tolerance handling

  • Experience implementing collision and overlap checks, ray casting, point-in-polygon tests, and triangulation

  • Strong understanding of coordinate transforms, unit systems, numerical stability, and degenerate geometry cases

  • Some exposure to computer vision or OCR is a plus

  • A deep thinker who enjoys tackling hard spatial problems end-to-end and turning theory into reliable systems

This role is ideal for someone who wants to apply engine-level spatial thinking to real-world construction problems and build foundational systems that matter from day one.
