Opportunity
ExpertEdge is the most ambitious product Packt has built in 20 years, and we are hiring the person who will scale it.
The book has not changed in 500 years. It is still a static object, read top to bottom, with no way to ask it a question. We think that is over. ExpertEdge takes serious content from the world's best publishers and rebuilds it as a multi-modal, interactive, AI-augmented learning experience that a working professional commits to complete. You can talk to the content, test yourself against it, and apply it to your own work. It is what a book becomes when you take the constraints of paper away.
We have licensing deals with some of the most respected publishers in the world including Oxford University Press, MIT Press, Wiley, Sage, and Rosenfeld Media. We take their best content and turn it into the ExpertEdge catalogue, which our subscribers pay to access. There is nothing else like this on the market, the publishers know it, and our corpus is growing every month.
The product works. We have paying subscribers, the conversion mechanics make sense, and the buyer (a senior developer or analyst leading a team of 5 to 10 inside an SME) keeps telling us we have built the thing they wished existed. What we have not yet done is build the outbound engine that puts this in front of every one of those buyers at scale.
The total addressable market is in the millions of buyers. The product converts. The content moat is real and growing. We have the team, the platform, the publisher relationships, and the runway. What we need is the person who turns this into a 9-figure business.
You will own outbound and demand generation for ExpertEdge B2B Direct from day 1. You will report to the CEO of ExpertEdge. In 12 months, you will have hired your team. In 2 to 3 years, if you do the job well, you will be running the marketing function for the product or holding a P&L of your own. You are not joining a marketing department. You are starting one.

Who This Is For
We are looking for one specific kind of person. Someone who thinks laterally. Someone who, on reading this JD, has 3 ideas about what ExpertEdge B2B Direct should be doing that we have not thought of yet. Someone whose instinct, when they see an opportunity, is to act rather than wait for permission.
The clearest signal you are this person is what you do next. Most people will scroll past and some will apply through the form. A few will find a way to reach me directly, with something specific to say. That last group is who we want to talk to.

How to Stand Out
The application form is at the bottom of this page. Use it if you want, but it is not the most interesting path. The interesting path is to do something that demonstrates you can already do the job.
A few candidates will work out who I am, find me on LinkedIn, and send a message that helps to separate them from the crowd but a handful will go further. They will:

  • Find an ICP-fit prospect for ExpertEdge B2B Direct and send a cold outreach sequence aimed at them, sharing it with me so I can see how they think.
  • Spot a problem with our current website, marketing, or positioning and tell me what they would change, with reasoning.
  • Build a working demo (a Clay table, an n8n workflow, a landing page) that does a piece of the job and shows it to me.
  • Write a LinkedIn post about ExpertEdge that gets engagement we did not get ourselves.
  • Surprise me with something I have not listed here.

None of this is required but the form exists because we will read every CV. But if you are the right person for this role, doing the work before you have the job will be effortless and natural.

On Honesty
We will check references and we will check whether the work you send us is your own. We will ask, in interview, for the detail and context behind every claim you make.

If we find that references have been faked, generated, or coached using AI, your application ends immediately and we will not engage again. The same goes for work samples that you cannot defend in conversation.

We say this because the role is too important to hire on a false signal, and because the person we want for this job would never need to fake anything.

What the Job Actually Is
Build the Outbound Engine
Design and run the outbound system from scratch. List building, signal capture, multi-channel sequences, landing pages, conversion. Run the experiments and scale what works.

Own Demand Generation
Our buyer does not respond to generic B2B marketing. You will own the content strategy, social media presence, and SEO that earns their attention. Turn our existing assets (a growing catalogue, a publisher network with reach, an audience that already engages with us) into pipeline.

Run Everything Through AI
We expect 3 to 5 times the output of a traditional marketer in this role. You will reach for AI workflows by reflex. Clay, Apollo, Claude, GPT, n8n, Zapier, and whatever replaces them. We are not asking you to build agents from scratch. We are asking that you cannot remember the last time you did a repetitive task by hand. At the same time, we are not asking you to mindlessly use AI as a part of the role. It should be applied as a critical lever of scale.

Build a Team Behind You
Everything you build in year one should be documented and repeatable. In year two, you will build out a team. The goal is that new hires plug into a system that already works.

What We Need to See
We are not interested in titles, ranks, or brands on the CV. We are interested in what you have shipped and what it produced.

You have started something, run a P&L, or been an early commercial hire at a company that grew. You can answer in numbers. How much pipeline you built, how much you closed, what your conversion was.

You can write a cold email that gets a reply, build a sequence that books meetings, and run a discovery call that ends with a clear next step. You do not draw a line between sales and marketing.

Your writing is sharp and specific. You can show samples (cold emails, LinkedIn posts, landing page copy) you are proud of.

Useful, but Not Essential

  • Selling into developer, technical, or data-led buyers.
  • A background in learning, content, publishing, or developer tools.
  • Hands-on with Clay, Apollo, Smartlead, Instantly, or similar.
  • Familiarity with product-led growth and self-serve B2B funnels.
  • Audience or community you have built in public.

After a first conversation, the core of the process is a work sample (a real piece of B2B Direct work that we discuss together). You will meet me, the CEO of Packt, and 1 or 2 people you would work alongside.
