Job Description
Who is Recruiting from Scratch
Recruiting from Scratch is a premier talent firm that focuses on placing the best product managers, software, and hardware talent at innovative companies. Our team is 100% remote and we work with teams across the United States to help them hire.
Title of Role: Founding Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA (On-site, 5 days/week)
Company Stage of Funding: Seed (~$8M total funding, ~$6.6M seed round)
Office Type: On-site
Salary: $150,000 – $300,000 + 0.5–1.5% equity
Visa: Visa sponsorship available (case-by-case for exceptional candidates)
Our client is building an AI-powered integration platform for the real economy, automating how companies connect systems across supply chain and logistics workflows.
The product replaces brittle, manual integration work with agentic systems that can generate, manage, and operate production-grade integrations end-to-end.
Founded by experienced operators who previously scaled a leading European logistics company from seed to 400+ employees, the team is now building from San Francisco with early enterprise customers already in production.
This is a true 0→1 founding engineering opportunity to define the core infrastructure and agent systems powering mission-critical integrations for real-world businesses.
What You Will Do
- Build and design AI coding agents from scratch for generating and maintaining integrations
- Architect and scale the core integration runtime (a “mini-Vercel” for enterprise workflows)
- Own end-to-end systems spanning agent orchestration, infrastructure, and deployment
- Design foundational backend systems using TypeScript and modern infrastructure tools
- Build and maintain production-grade agentic workflows for real economy integrations
- Define engineering standards, architecture patterns, and system design decisions for the company
- Work across both agentic AI systems and infrastructure-heavy backend systems
- Develop systems that adapt to rapidly changing environments and enterprise constraints
- Collaborate directly with founders on product direction and technical strategy
- Ship early and often in a fast-moving, ambiguity-heavy startup environment
Ideal Candidate Background
- 2–5 years of experience as a full-stack or backend engineer
- Experience at a VC-backed startup (Seed–Series B strongly preferred)
- Proven ability to build and ship complex systems end-to-end
- Strong TypeScript experience (core requirement)
- Exposure to AI agents or LLM-powered systems (strong plus if built from scratch)
- Experience with infrastructure, runtimes, or platform engineering systems
- Comfortable in high-autonomy, 0→1 environments
- Strong product intuition and ability to work directly with founders
- CS or engineering degree (top 50 school preferred but not mandatory with strong experience)
Preferred / Strong Signals
- Experience at developer tools or infra companies (e.g., Vercel-type environments)
- Built AI agents or agentic workflows in production
- Experience with platform engineering or runtime systems
- Early-stage startup founding engineer experience
- Strong backend + systems engineering depth
- Experience working in logistics, supply chain, or integration-heavy domains
- Demonstrated ownership of major systems or products
Strong Signals
- 0→1 product building experience
- Built agentic AI systems or LLM-based automation tools
- Owned infrastructure systems in production
- High autonomy and strong execution speed
- Strong startup pedigree (seed–Series B environments)
- Clear ability to build without structure or direction
- Systems thinking across backend + distributed infrastructure
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $150,000 – $300,000
- Equity: 0.5–1.5%
- Visa sponsorship available (case-by-case)
- High ownership from day one
- Founding engineering role with direct impact on architecture
- Rapid iteration environment with high autonomy
- Direct access to founders and early customers
Why Join
This is a rare opportunity to become a foundational engineer at a company building the integration layer for the real economy.
You will help design the systems that automate how businesses connect, deploy, and manage mission-critical workflows — replacing manual integration work with intelligent agentic systems.
If you want to work at the intersection of AI agents, infrastructure, and 0→1 product building, this is a high-ownership role where your decisions will define the company’s technical foundation.
