About Bond Studio

Bond Studio is a team of twenty engineers and designers building spatial intelligence software for commerce and design. The platform captures real-world spaces via mobile phone, reconstructs room geometry with sub-inch accuracy, and renders interactive, customizable 3D visualizations that let users modify layouts and purchase materials directly within the interface.

The system handles hundreds of thousands of dynamically loaded product assets while computing construction-critical data like surface areas, clearances, and material takeoffs. The visualization stack runs on Unity, targeting iOS, WebGL, Windows, and headless Linux, utilizing both URP and HDRP pipelines for real-time rendering and photorealistic visualization. This is production spatial commerce infrastructure, not a demo.

The Opportunity

Bond Studio is hiring a Founding Backend Engineer to own the architecture and implementation of all APIs and infrastructure supporting the web and mobile platform. This is a founding role — you will define the technical direction of the backend, not inherit it.

The problems are harder than a typical startup backend. The system requires collaborative editing with history tracking similar to Google Docs or Figma, a multi-tenant architecture at the complexity level of Rippling or Shopify, and unique compute requirements for running computer vision models at scale. If you want to work on infrastructure that is genuinely difficult and have full ownership over how it gets built, this is that role.

What You'll Do

• •Own the architecture and implementation of APIs and backend services that support all web and mobile product features
• •Design and evolve database schemas with durability, scalability, and long-term data change patterns in mind
• •Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi, Terraform, or equivalent)
• •Instrument services for observability and own debugging when failures occur in production
• •Architect and implement collaborative editing with history tracking, multi-tenant data isolation, and computer vision compute pipelines
• •Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines
• •Make principled decisions across eventing systems, search, async tasks, workflow engines, and data warehousing as the platform grows

You Should Have

• •Deep, hands-on experience designing and implementing backend services — not just what you can get from an LLM, but real lived experience building and operating these systems
• •Ability to reason in detail about API design philosophies including REST, GraphQL, Protobuf, JSONRPC, and MCP — including their tradeoffs and appropriate use cases
• •Strong database fundamentals including schema design, query execution plans, indexing strategies, and familiarity with internal data structures such as ART, LSM-trees, and skip lists
• •Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure including networking concepts like load balancers, NAT gateways, and VPCs
• •Experience provisioning infrastructure through IaC tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation
• •Experience setting up or modifying CI/CD pipelines
• •General fluency across common backend architecture patterns including search, eventing systems, async tasks, workflow engines, and data warehouses

Nice to Have

• •Experience building collaborative editing or real-time multi-user systems
• •Experience with multi-tenant architecture at scale
• •Familiarity with compute infrastructure for running computer vision or ML models in production
