mimic is an early stage deep tech robotics & AI start-up based in Zurich and supported by leading VCs. We give industry workers a helping hand for tedious manual labour tasks and mitigate labour shortages with a versatile automation platform. Our automation solutions, driven by dexterous robotic hands and cutting edge AI trained on human observations, bring a new level of AI embodiment to the real world.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (Robotics), you will help leading robotics companies integrate and deploy mimic’s AI models on their robotic platforms. Working at the intersection of AI, robotics, and customer success, you will collaborate closely with both our internal research teams and customers’ robotics and AI teams to bring advanced manipulation capabilities into production environments.
You will act as the primary technical interface between mimic and our partners, helping customers integrate our training and inference stack, diagnose performance bottlenecks, and scale deployments from initial proof-of-concept to production systems.
Responsibilities
- Integrate and deploy mimic’s AI models on customer robotic platforms and hardware stacks
- Adapt our training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines to new robots, sensors, and manipulation tasks
- Work closely with customer AI and robotics teams to ensure successful adoption of mimic’s technology
- Diagnose model, data, perception, and robotics integration issues and drive rapid resolution
- Support customer deployments on-site and remotely across a variety of robotics applications
- Contribute to internal tooling, infrastructure, and codebases to improve scalability and ease of integration
- Define integration requirements, deployment architectures, and technical roadmaps together with customers
- Coordinate across internal AI, robotics, and product teams to ensure successful project execution
- Track and communicate deployment KPIs such as task success rate, robustness, latency, and system uptime
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, AI, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Experience deploying AI/ML systems in real-world environments
- Python programming skills and experience with modern machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch)
- Strong robotics background with hands-on experience working on robotic systems, including perception, planning, controls, manipulation, or robot software infrastructure
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with highly technical customers
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on engineering mindset
- Fluent English
- Willingness to travel for customer deployments and technical workshops
- Driving License (B)
Nice to have
- Familiarity with modern robot learning approaches (imitation learning, reinforcement learning, diffusion policies, foundation models)
- Experience with robotic manipulation, ROS/ROS2, robot control systems, or simulation environments
- Experience integrating AI models with robotic hardware platforms
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and deployment tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
