Position Summary

The Prep Cook position is a hands-on culinary training opportunity designed to introduce aspiring culinary professionals to the standards, pace, and expectations of a professional kitchen. The stage will work alongside the culinary team to assist with basic food preparation, organization, and kitchen cleanliness while observing and learning proper techniques, safety procedures, and kitchen operations.

This position provides valuable exposure to professional kitchen environments and allows both the candidate and culinary team to evaluate fit, skills, and work style.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Support the team with mise en place for service.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist with labeling, storing, and rotating food products.
• Observe and learn kitchen techniques, recipes, and plating standards.
• Support dishwashing, cleaning tasks, or other kitchen duties as needed.
• Communicate effectively with chefs and kitchen staff.

Qualifications

• Passion for culinary arts and interest in working in a professional kitchen.
• Basic understanding of kitchen safety and sanitation preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
• Culinary school training or prior kitchen experience is helpful but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Compensation:

The starting hourly rate for this position is $22.00 per hour.

• This is the rate Meadowood Napa Valley reasonably expects to pay. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, and other job-related qualifications. This position is eligible for service charge distributions and gratuities in accordance with company policy. Total compensation varies and is not guaranteed.
