Work Schedule: 7am to 3:30pm, 7:30am to 4pm, and 11am to 6pm as needed
This is a casual position. Casual employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Workdays/hours will often vary from week to week.
Works in a fast-paced environment to prepare and deliver safe infant feedings. The Infant Nutrition Technician will communicate to the Clinical Dietitian and Nursing Staff all appropriate information regarding orders and preparation of formulas and human milk and will maintain the Infant Nutrition Lab in a safe and sanitary condition, following protocol, procedure, and department safety standards.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Responsible for the Infant Nutrition Lab and human milk supply at assigned facilities by accurately calculating, measuring and mixing feedings according to diet order, using established protocols to ensure positive patient outcomes.
Collects breast milk and delivers fortified breast milk, following policy and procedure.
Prepares supplemental feedings and formulas by processing feeding orders accurately, to promote optimal nutritional intake according to departmental standards.
Maintains organization of dry and cold storage areas, and maintains supplemental feedings and formula par levels. Monitors expiration dates and handles outdated product following established protocol.
Collects, labels, stores, and handles human donor milk, maintaining proper documentation according to policy and procedure.
Maintains appropriate documentation for all human milk and formula processes used in the Infant Nutrition Lab. Maintains adequate inventory of formulas and supplies. Orders formula products and supplies through Lawson.
Consistently verify diet/feeding orders in electronic system. Document patient charges accurately into the electronic medical record.
Orders and maintains inventory of pasteurized donor milk for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) from authorized members of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America.
Intakes and accounts donated breast milk including interacting with donors, setting appointments, and contacting the receiving milk bank for donated breast milk pick up.
