About the Opportunity

The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne is seeking a Formation Specialist: Sacraments & Liturgy—a mission driven leader passionate about forming disciples and strengthening the sacramental and liturgical life of our parishes.

Grounded in a discipleship based approach, this role leads the exploration, curation, and implementation of high quality resources and formation initiatives to equip parish leaders across the Archdiocese.

You will play a key role in supporting children, families, and adults preparing for full initiation into the life of the Church, ensuring that sacramental preparation and liturgical formation are both theologically sound and pastorally effective.

Working closely with parish leaders, sacramental teams, and school communities, you will help transform sacramental moments into genuine opportunities for encounter, evangelisation, and growth in faith.

What you will do

In this role, you will work closely with parish leaders, sacramental teams, and school communities, to help transform sacramental moments into genuine opportunities for encounter, evangelisation, and growth in faith.

In addition to this you will:

• Curate accessible, theologically rich and pastorally engaging resources for the Sacraments of Initiation and liturgical worship.
• Design and deliver workshops, seminars, formation sessions and training initiatives across the Archdiocese for parish leaders, sacramental coordinators, catechists, and volunteers.
• Provide expert guidance and consultation to parishes seeking to renew or establish effective sacramental pathways.
• Collaborate with Catholic Education and parish–school networks to develop consistent and integrated approaches to sacramental preparation.
• Ensure alignment with Archdiocesan foundational documents on formation and discipleship.
• Evaluate, refine, and adapt resources based on parish feedback and emerging community needs.
• Embed cultural awareness and pastoral sensitivity into all resources, frameworks, and formation experiences.

What you’ll bring

You will bring a strong combination of theological understanding, pastoral awareness, and practical formation experience, including:

• Tertiary qualifications (or progress toward qualifications) in theology, religious education, or a related discipline.
• Experience in catechesis, sacramental preparation, or liturgical formation in a parish, school, or diocesan context.
• Excellent facilitation, presentation, and adult learning design skills.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, curate, and develop faith formation resources for diverse age groups.
• Familiarity with contemporary Church documents on evangelisation, formation, liturgy, and catechesis.
• Strong organisational and project management abilities, with the capacity to respond flexibly to evolving needs.
