Shift Pattern – 4 on 4 off (2 days, followed by 2 nights)

Primary purpose and function of position:

Reporting to the ASRS Engineering First Line Manager based within the Logistics Department the role of an FLT Mechanic is considered as a multi-skilled position.

The main purpose of the FLT Mechanic is to carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a fleet of fork lift trucks and other material handling equipment supporting Logistics in servicing customer demand. The role is vital to ensure a continued operation of the fleet in a cost efficient manner – ensuring 100% focus on Safety and MHE technical requirements controlled by various mandatory requirements. An FLT Mechanic will look to improve the reliability and safety of the material handling equipment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The role requires the Mechanic to facilitate effective operation of the fleet to ensure effective storage and retrieval of stock as and when needed.

Acting as a role model for safety and leading by example are key pre-requisites of the role.

The FLT Mechanic will look to trouble shoot faults and issues with the fleet that would interrupt normal operation – looking for support via the Linde Technical Services team when required.

The role holder must be capable of understanding and defining where faults or operational issues exist and would work together to resolve them in the safest and most efficient means to allow Departmental KPI`s to maintaining the highest safety standards.

General Accountabilities:

  • Mechanical and Electrical FLT maintenance, including
  • Working in a safe manner following all company policies and procedures
  • Undertake, drive and support maintenance and improvement activities
  • Adhere to manufacturers safety, and maintenance procedures
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure a supply of spares & services to ensure a minimum level of stock is on hand to maintain effective operation.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a high performance, flexible and “can do” culture with flexibility across a range of similar Engineering activities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance
  • FLT fault diagnosis and repairs including the fitted WMS equipment
  • To ensure sustainability of high departmental standards including 5S and key hygiene responsibilities.
  • Undertake, drive and support maintenance and improvement activities
  • Record all maintenance activities within existing recommended formats. with target to move to the use of maintenance management system (SAP) in the next 12 months.
  • Maintenance prioritization and planning
  • Analyze FLT’s to improve performance
  • Identify critical spares for designated FLT’s, with a refurbishment / replacement plan as required
  • Complete some work as a lone worker adhering to the site rules
  • Controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment
  • Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs
  • Ensure all safety systems are in working order
  • Report hazards via Hazard Report System.
  • Record any accidents & incidents via Injury Notification Form and assist where possible in any subsequent accident/incident investigation. Inform FLM immediately.
    • Undertake activities to support the department in achieving KPI targets
    • Undertake activities to support VPO compliance and sustainability (Safety / Maintenance)
    • Undertake training for new skills and tasks as recognized as being relevant to the role and as requested by Management
    • Comply with all documentation and system transaction requirements

Escalate any matters or areas of concern to the FLM or Logistics Manager

Key Skills, Knowledge & Competencies:

  • Must be FLT certified
  • Must have the initiative, will and desire to succeed
  • Recognised apprenticeship, NVQ3, HNC or equivalent mechanical/electrical qualification relating to the repair and maintenance of FLT/Plant equipment.
  • FLT license
  • Proven fault finding and maintenance skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in a multi-disciplined engineering function is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
  • Good numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills
  • Must have basic IT skills and be proficient on the core systems used and FLT software
  • A good level of numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively as part of a team and to work on own, using initiative
  • Capable of carrying out multiple roles within the area
  • Strong organisation skills with a structured and systematic approach, adhering to deadlines, able to work on own initiative and prioritise workload effectively
