Forge Tooling Engineer

Job Description Summary

Initiate, oversee, and implement process optimization and cost reduction projects, evaluating new Forge Press Tool technologies and applying Forge Press Tool engineering knowledge. Support plant production requirements and continuous improvement activities across multiple plants and processes to optimize perishable and durable tooling. Coordinate with site teams at multiple plants to communicate Tool MFG and best practices. Maintain standard tooling records such as performance to budget, tool evaluations and test reports, design, and set-up data. Possess a strong understanding of Forge Press Tooling.

Job Description:

• Facilitate the comprehensive management of site tooling in alignment with the Dauch Tooling System standards. Drive continuous improvement and promote multi-functional cooperation with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and General Stores to ensure tooling-related topics and concerns are communicated optimally.
• Identify and support Continuous Improvement activities for Quality (Scrap reduction), and Cost (CPU).
• Maintain Technical Tooling documentation, Tooling Drawings, and Tool Layouts (AutoCAD or similar).
• Support plant tool manufacturing operations to ensure accuracy, organization, and best practices.
• Coordinate with preferred Tool Steel Suppliers to identify best practices, continuous improvement activity, and new technologies.
• Support the management of tooling inventory, tool reconditioning, and scrap tooling processes.
• Utilize problem solving and troubleshooting techniques to resolve machining issues.
• Quote cost per unit of new jobs based on tooling selection and expected tool life.
• Teach and mentor tooling and manufacturing engineers at the plant level.
• Interact with plant tool rooms to support their forge tool manufacturing processes.

Required Skills and Education

• Minimum 2 years of forge tool room experience, or tool manufacturing experience required.
• Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent major preferred.
• Detailed knowledge of Forge Tools and manufacturing processes.
• Proven track record to manage and complete large projects.
• Ability to travel
