Job Description

Position Scope

We are seeking Forepersons (Internally known as Supervisors) to support our Heavy Construction and Mining team. By being the point of reference for both workers and supervisors you will be a key component of the success of the project. You should have a solid background in large scale, site-based projects utilizing your leadership skills and experience in the planning, development and coordination of large heavy construction and earthworks projects in the Fort McMurray Alberta area in order to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. In addition Supervisors are involved with the interpretation of plans and specifications for projects, contract administration and project controls requirements as well as construction activities associated with the project requirements.

Site: Aurora

Shift: 14 days on and 7 off. 12hr shifts.

Accommodations: LOA Provided (No Camp Accommodations for this role).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient deployment and productivity of work crews
  • Ensure and enforce compliance to all company, client and legislated Safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections and complete follow-up activities
  • Assess and confirm, through documentation, crew competency
  • Review safe work plans/ hazard assessment with crew prior to job commencement
  • Ensure that all work permits are obtained and adhered to
  • Take corrective action to mitigate immediate hazards, where safe to do so
  • Ensure consistent application of the progressive discipline system
  • Inspect work site before, during and at end of shift
  • Identify surplus equipment and labour resources
  • Operate in a safe and courteous manner at all times
  • Ensure compliance to Corporate and client D&A Policies
  • Ensure all new hires/transfers receive required orientations. Attend and participate in site specific orientations
  • Ensure adequate and suitable safety equipment, including PPE, is supplied, readily accessible, properly used and maintaine
  • Promote and ensure the FLRA process is conducted before every task
  • Report and refuse unsafe work. Report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Complete near miss cards/voice cards
  • Report all incidents and hazards to the Supervisor
  • Conduct incident investigations and prepare associated support documentation immediately
  • Report and respond to any harassment issues
  • Identify testing requirements and ensure Subcontractors are available to support daily operations
  • Complete termination/transfer reports and submit to Supervisor
  • Adhere to project, company environmental considerations
  • Identify quantity and scope changes to the Contract and communicate to Supervisor
  • Ensure crews use and understand up to date project cost coding
  • Monitor equipment utilization and report down equipment to Mechanics
  • Review weekly servicing and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Complete daily activity reports/daily logs and submit to Supervisor
  • Mentor fellow workers and lead by example

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years experience in a mining environment (Oilsands preferably)
  • 5-7 years experience in a Supervisory role
  • 5 years executing civil/earthworks project scopes
  • Experience with Overburden, Pipe/Culvert installation, road construction and etc.

  • Leadership for Safety Excellence; Strong attitude towards safety and ability to lead by example
  • Ability to manage a crew of 80 people
  • Ability to read and understand IFC Drawings
  • Ability to read and understand survey stakes, as well as machiene control.
  • Understanding of mining execution and equipment utilization
  • Experience in reading plans and designs
  • Strong communication skills and able to speak to a large crowd
  • Ability to speak and address clients professionally
  • Ability to manage and schedule between multiple sub-contractors
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken
  • Good computer skills required

All successful candidates must:

  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Have experience as requested in the job description above
  • Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  • Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening

    All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:

  • CSO or BSO Certification
  • Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Copy of recent Driver’s Abstract
  • VOID cheque/direct deposit form
