About the Diversion & Intervention Services Program

The Diversion & Intervention Services team partners with law enforcement and courts to equip professionals with the tools, education, and strategies to respond effectively to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Our work helps prevent unnecessary arrests, court involvement, and hospitalizations while connecting individuals to appropriate care.

The Forensic Competency Restoration Provider I (FCRP-I) works with Jackson County Detention Center (JCDC) and the Department of Mental Health (DMH) to provide behavioral health interventions to defendants in custody who have been determined Incompetent to Proceed, with the goal of restoring competency. Embedded within JCDC, the FCRP-I provides direct services and serves as a liaison between DMH, the courts, JCDC, and other treatment providers.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with defendants, JCDC staff and leadership, courts, judges, law enforcement, prosecutors, public defenders, and community-based treatment providers.
  • Provide competency restoration and behavioral health services using evidence-based practices to defendants committed to the Department of Mental Health as Incompetent to Proceed.
  • Coordinate services and maintain ongoing communication with the Forensic Mobile Team, Jail Service Providers, and other community partners.
  • Connect individuals with appropriate resources and services upon release from the county jail and provide case management support to promote continuity of care.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, conference calls, webinars, and professional development opportunities related to forensic behavioral health services.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with the Department of Mental Health and Jackson County Detention Center to support effective coordination of services.

Requirements of the Position

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a Social Science related discipline as defined by the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
  • At least two (2) years of case management related experience required.
  • A valid automobile driver’s license, appropriate automobile insurance and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work is required.
  • Ability to work in a secure environment and to abide by the rules and regulations of the JCDC is required.
  • Working knowledge of assessment and treatment of behavioral health conditions.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as use of email.
