Job Description

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and a minimum of five years of experience in track and structures maintenance and inspection are required. College education may be substituted on a year for-year basis. Proficiency is required in the use of a personal computer and must be skilled in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, scheduling, timekeeping, maintenance management and other software.

INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.

Supervises the activities of Track Maintainers, Walkers, Equipment Mechanics, Apprentices, Structural Inspectors, or Tamper Operators. Maintains Branch inspection and maintenance programs in accordance with Branch policies and federal requirements and guidelines. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. Performs work and makes decisions that impacts service delivery and customer safety to a substantial degree.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assigns work to and supervises unit employees. Ensures day-to-day activities in support of Work Program goals are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within Branch policies, procedures, and federal requirements.

2. Coaches and leads personnel on the proper performance of work, frequently providing technical advice and assistance. Leadership in performing work safely is emphasized.

3. Plans, monitors, evaluates, and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment and good employee morale.

4. Coordinates the work performed under his/her direct supervision with those operations performed under other supervisors. This often includes work performed by Branches outside of Maintenance of Way.

5. Prepares reports summarizing inspection and maintenance activities. Prepares cost, manpower, time, and equipment estimates for upcoming work. Forwards reports to Planners and Managers.

6. Utilizes the Enterprise Asset System to schedule, track and record track and structural maintenance and inspection activities.

7. Makes field decisions which have major impact on service delivery and safety.

8. Performs other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the Track Walkers, Track Maintainers, Track Apprentices, Track Equipment Mechanics, Structural Inspectors, and Tamper Operators of the Branch.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

MARTA Track Inspection/Maintenance or FHWA inspection certification is required. Possession of valid Georgia (class A) commercial driver's license is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

1. Works on elevated surfaces such as bucket-trucks and elevated track.

2. Walks on concrete and other floor surfaces that may be slippery or uneven.

3. Walks on track, right of way and ballast.

4. Performs duties outside in all weather conditions.

5. May work heavy manual labor in extreme temperatures.

6. Work may be performed around energized electrical components.
