The Barrick Africa & Middle East (AME) team at North Mara Mine is seeking a driven, safety-focused Tanzanian national to join us as Foreman – Engineering Services.
This is a high-impact local role within our ongoing HME OC Maintenance team. Engineering Services is currently transitioning from a single Foreman position to a two-Foreman structure to strengthen coverage, build local leadership depth, and drive sustained improvement across all functions. The specific remit – which sections and teams each Foreman will lead – will be confirmed during the selection process, based on a skills assessment of both the incoming and existing post-holder.

Direct Reports: To be confirmed following role remit finalization. Engineering Services covers workshops, heavy transport, rigging, mobile cranes, dewatering, water treatment, mechanical, civil infrastructure, electrical & refrigeration, and light vehicles. The successful applicant must be willing and capable of leading across any of these areas.

Job Purpose
As Foreman – Engineering Services you will supervise and coordinate maintenance activities across your allocated Engineering Services sections, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of maintenance across workshops, facilities, and support equipment. You will enforce SAP discipline, drive housekeeping and technical standards, mentor and develop local teams, and support the broader site turnaround by eliminating temporary repairs and building sustainable capability. The following responsibilities apply across all Engineering Services functions; the specific scope of activities will be aligned to your confirmed remit following the skills assessment process.
Responsibilities
Drive a true Zero Harm culture by leading daily safety engagements, housekeeping audits, incident reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives across all assigned Engineering Services teams.
Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities across allocated sections – which may include any combination of: workshops, pumps, gensets, cranes, heavy transport, light vehicles, water treatment plants, camp facilities, civil infrastructure, rigging, dewatering, and electrical services.
Ensure full SAP PM compliance – including notifications, work order creation, parts ordering, job history recording, and timely closure with attachments and accurate reporting.
Manage workshop and work areas to the highest standards: excellent housekeeping, secured and maintained tooling, and enforced preventive maintenance programmes.
Provide hands-on training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management to develop a competent, results-oriented local team and build long-term technical capability.
Monitor and control maintenance costs, consumables usage, and budget performance; take corrective action to remain favorable to budget.
Enforce consistent technical standards (welding, structural repairs, rigging, plumbing) and eliminate temporary repair cycles through disciplined execution and quality workmanship.
Support the Superintendent – Engineering Services in developing schedules, reporting, preventive maintenance programmes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Develop and implement safe work procedures and ensure full team adherence.
Collaborate closely with the second Engineering Services Foreman to ensure seamless coverage, consistent standards, and coordinated delivery across all sections.
Perform any other duty that may be assigned by Superior.
Qualification requirements
Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Diploma in a relevant field.
Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees is essential.
Experience with computerized maintenance systems, e.g. SAP, is essential.
A valid Tanzanian driving license.
Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness and commitment to Zero Harm.
Experience and competencies needed.
7–10 years working experience in engineering services maintenance operations within mining or heavy industrial operations.
Broad experience across two or more of: water/sewer systems, pumps, water treatment plants, cranes, rigging, heavy transport, civil/structural maintenance, electrical & refrigeration, light vehicle maintenance, and camp/facility services.
Proven supervisory experience with strong coaching, team development, and people management skills.
Excellent knowledge of maintenance standards, methods, and procedures across engineering services disciplines.
Adaptable – willing to take on the remit assigned following the skills assessment process and collaborate with a peer Foreman to deliver seamless coverage across all sections.
Medical fitness for the position and environment.
Reliable, trustworthy, and able to cope with pressure.
Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and levels.
