Job Description

This application is for San Ysidro Health’s Internal Medicine Residency Program Year 2026. This position is posted for applicants that have already been accepted into our program.

Mission Statement:

San Ysidro Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) whose mission is to provide high quality health care to the underserved population of San Diego County. With predominantly low income patient populations, and clinic sites in Medically Underserved Areas (MUA), the clinic has continued to provide care for the poor, uninsured, immigrants, refugees, elderly, and those living with HIV/AIDS for over 50 years. As such, it is committed to having well educated primary care and subspecialty health care physicians to provide this care. As such, San Ysidro Health's internal medicine residency program therefore embodies the Clinic's mission to provide high quality care to its underserved population, by providing medical education in this unique community setting to the next generation ready to take on this mission and goal.

Program Aims:

San Ysidro Health's internal medicine residency program will have two main goals. The main goal is to educate a diverse group of physicians with an interest in learning medicine in a primary care community setting serving this population. The ultimate goal however is to graduate more Internal Medicine physicians interested in a primary care practice, and start a pipeline for Internal Medicine physicians to practice in community health centers, and settings where there is a need due to poor access. This will be achieved via a unique program that incorporates best/novel practices for primary care settings, and Internal Medicine programs including: Community primary care mode, Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) elevated with Share the Care, and providing intensive training in medical issues affecting these communities. An emphasis on learning Quality Care initiatives for the health care of the community, improving practice models to achieve this, along with the need for team work in this setting, will be made. The residents will be given ample opportunities to participate in ongoing public health research available in the clinic setting, or to take on or participate in community, hospital, or clinic Quality Improvement projects of their own.
