We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Food Technician & Quality Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a quality-focused professional who is passionate about food safety, continuous improvement, and making a genuine difference.

About the role

As the Food Technician & Quality Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving Merriwa’s food safety, quality and compliance systems. Working closely with the Senior Manager Compliance and Quality Team, you will help ensure our products consistently meet regulatory, customer and internal standards.

This hands-on role will see you supporting production teams, monitoring quality systems, analysing data, conducting audits and driving a strong food safety culture across all stages of production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • · Support the maintenance of food safety and quality management systems
  • ·Manage document control, verification schedules and compliance registers
  • ·Conduct internal checks, inspections and verification activities
  • ·Perform CCP, GMP, hygiene and environmental monitoring checks
  • ·Assist with product testing, routine sampling and quality reporting
  • ·Analyse quality trends and provide actionable insights
  • ·Support investigations into customer complaints, incidents and non-conformances
  • ·Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
  • ·Assist with internal, customer and certification audits
  • ·Promote a strong food safety and quality-first culture across the business
  • ·Provide training, coaching and technical advice to operational teams
  • ·Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in systems and processes

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring strong technical capability, excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to quality assurance.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Quality or related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety systems
  • Experience in food manufacturing or food processing environments
  • Knowledge of Australian food standards and regulatory requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Competency in record keeping and data analysis
  • Experience participating in or conducting audits
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Satisfactory Victorian Working with Children Check
  • Satisfactory Police Check
  • Satisfactory NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • International Police Check (if applicable)

Desirable

  • Experience with GFSI-aligned standards such as SQF, BRC or FSSC 22000
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and digital platforms
  • Previous site-based quality or technical experience
