MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability and willingness to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, if necessary
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in dietary at a Long-Term care facility.

Must comply with FDVA Smoking Policy including compliance with those facilities designated as “Tobacco Free Campuses”.

Incumbent will work under the supervision of the Food Service Director and the Food Production and Services Supervisor in the day-to-day food service operation at the State Veterans' Nursing Home. The Food Support Worker may act as the Food Production and Services Supervisor when that staff member is absent from the facility.

  • Ensure that food is stored, prepared, distributed and served under sanitary conditions and follow all FDVA Policies and Procedures, Homes Program Standards and Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with state and facility safety procedures in the operation of food production and cleaning of equipment.
  • Ensure that clean and sanitary conditions are maintained in all areas of the kitchen food preparation and serving lines; turn on and set temperature on grills, stoves, deep fryer, and broiler.
  • Record all temperatures in the temperature book (food and equipment).
  • Report any faulty equipment to the supervisor.
  • Place food items on serving lines and keep serving line well stocked.
  • Maintain, check, and control kitchen inventory to determine quantities available as well as amounts needed for operation.
  • Assist with purchase requests for food, cleaning supplies, utensils, pots and pans, dishes, and paper products in the kitchen.
  • Verify incoming shipments and receipts in the absence of stock person.
  • Rotate stock throughout (dry storage, refrigerators, and freezers).
  • Ensure all equipment is turned off properly and that all doors are locked at night prior to leaving.
  • Keep chemical room clean and organized with everything off the floor.
  • Keep all hand soap and paper towel dispensers filled throughout the kitchen and food service restroom.
  • Must be available, if requested by management, to respond to disasters such as Hurricanes affecting the facility.
  • Periodic local and overnight travel may/will be required,
  • Attends in-service training and perform other duties as assigned.
