Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, assisting with product selection, answering inquiries, processing special orders, and promoting Co-op products and services while contributing to a World Class Customer Experience.
  2. Receive, stock, rotate, and merchandise products throughout the Meat, Bakery, Deli, Grocery, and Produce departments; ensure merchandise is properly displayed, priced, signed, and presented according to brand standards.
  3. Prepare, package, label, weigh, and price products as required; maintain product quality, freshness, and presentation standards while adhering to food safety and handling procedures.
  4. Maintain cleanliness and organization of sales floors, service counters, coolers, freezers, storage areas, and workspaces; follow all food safety, sanitation, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, asset protection, and security procedures.
  5. Assist with inventory counts, stock transfers, shrink and spoilage control, promotional displays, and other duties assigned by the Department Manager or Food Store Manager to support operational efficiency and department performance.

Education and Experience:

  1. Completion of high school is preferred.
  2. Previous retail, grocery, food service, or customer service experience is considered an asset.
  3. Experience working in Meat, Bakery, Deli, Grocery, or Produce departments is considered an asset.
  4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  5. Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Food Safe Certification is considered an asset.
  7. Previous WHMIS training is considered an asset.
  8. Commitment to ongoing learning and development within the retail and food industry.
  9. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  10. Retail food environment requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and repetitive movements.
  11. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull merchandise up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  12. Requires adherence to food safety standards, workplace safety procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment as required.
