Job Title: Food Sovereignty Program Assistant

Salary/Wage: $24.32/per hr. $50,586/per yr.

Tribal Level: TL 113.1

Location: Siletz, OR.

INTRODUCTION:

The Food Sovereignty Program Assistant is dedicated to advancing Food Sovereignty for the Siletz Tribal population. Collaborating closely with Tribal members, community partnerships, internal and external stakeholders, and various committees, they assist with the delivery of culturally congruent health-preventive services on the Siletz Clinic Farm property and surrounding landscapes. This position provides administrative support services for the Food Sovereignty Program and contributes to the development and communication of opportunities provided by the program within the Clinic service area.

DUTIES:

  • Conduct administrative and clerical tasks including: purchasing, processing purchase orders/check requests, budget tracking, and program inventory.
  • Provide monthly financial record keeping and reconciliation of program budget and accounts.
  • Input recorded metrics of program impact into monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive administrative plans for program reporting, operating procedures, accounting, communications, garden certifications, and grant proposals.
  • Record meeting minutes for all program meetings, committee gatherings, and other meetings as directed by program manager.
  • Act as program liaison for program communication, events, and community inquiries.
  • Assist in the development of school educational outreach and field trips that support program goals.
  • Continual learning commitment to cultural competency.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating gardening workshops for Tribal members and provide administrative and operational support for other community programs as directed.
  • Recruit community volunteers and develop vocational training opportunities for Tribal members.
  • Provide information to tribal members about traditional and locally grown foods through presentations, hands-on activities, and written materials.
  • Prepare and communicate program information with internal and external partners including CTSI E-newsletter, website, social media outlets, and other community presentations.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external partnerships that support program goals and objectives.
  • Perform custodial duties within assigned work areas.
  • Assist with preparing and periodically updating protocol manuals for event/public safety, administrative tasks, external partnerships, and program reporting.
  • Assist in the development of grant proposals.
  • Perform other program functions as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED. One year of financial record keeping –AND- one year experience in community engagement programming –OR- one year of clerical experience –OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of:

Computers, office equipment, digital camera and video equipment, word processing, email, spreadsheet applications, and internet research.

Traditional foods, protections for sensitive habitats, and food sovereignty issues.

Best practices in gardening and land restoration.

Experience in:

Working with indigenous/native communities.

Using Microsoft Office applications (word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software).

Record keeping, progress reporting, and budget management.

Developing and implementing programming events and partnerships with a focus on community engagement.

Ability to:

Demonstrate strong communication skills—written, verbal, and in one-on-one interactions—and be comfortable working in/with diverse groups of people, including Tribal members, Tribal elders and the general public.

Be highly organized, able to work independently, and make accurate judgement of community values for program and resource development.

Perform physical work required for event organization, education demonstration, and general garden maintenance.

The Siletz Tribal Gaming Commission is responsible for the regulation of Chinook Winds Casino Resort and any other gaming activities within the Tribe's jurisdiction. The Tribal Council has delegated its authority to regulate Tribal gaming activities pursuant to applicable laws and regulations to the Siletz Tribal Gaming Commission by resolution adopting the Tribal Gaming Charter, pursuant to the Tribe's Tribal/State Compact for the regulation of Class III gaming with the State of Oregon. The Siletz Tribal Gaming Commission's regulatory authority extends over all Tribal gaming operations, including the activities of the Tribal Council in its gaming operation oversight role as set forth in the Tribal Gaming Charter.
