Job Description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for a full-time Food Services Supervisor. This position provides supervision to the feeding programs of The Salvation Army in Springfield. This is a 40 hour per week position with starting pay of $18.00 per hour.

The Salvation Army Springfield corps is located at 1707 W Chestnut Expy, Springfield, Missouri.

Essential Functions

  1. Comply with all safety and health regulations/codes regarding food preparation and service including maintenance of proper sanitation by wearing plastic gloves, hair nets, and aprons.
  2. Ensure that all food served meets State and Local standards and requirements including, but not limited to, the temperature of foods served.
  3. Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe from Harm guidelines.
  4. Oversee all kitchens and their operation, including the supervision of staff and volunteers, assist as necessary.
  5. Monitor food stock supplies to ensure adequate and fresh inventory levels. Prepare purchase orders for approval prior to shopping in-person or submitting online order. Stewardship principles should be practiced in all areas of inventory management and procurement.
  6. Guide in planning menus for kitchens to ensure meals are tasty and diverse while meeting nutrition and contractual requirements.
  7. Coordinate, plan, and execute or assist in events to include, but not limited to, recognition dinners and other Corps community events.
  8. Coordinate and assist with Emergency Disaster Service Food Services operations.
  9. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a courteous and professional manner that fosters good relationships with program participants, co-workers, and supervisors. Conflict resolution skills may be needed on occasion.
  10. Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of culinary training program and five years’ experience required. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Excellent professional communication skills (both oral and written). Previous management and/or supervision experience preferred. Event planning and volunteer supervision experience is a plus. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Medically qualified to work in the food service area. Ability to lead a team engaged in several projects simultaneously. Hold or obtain a Class E Driver’s License upon hire and pass The Salvation Army MVR check. Obtain CPR/First Aid training within ninety (90) days of hire.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be able to perform the above essential duties. Capable of performing in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. However, the kitchen will rise above 80 degrees Fahrenheit at times and the walk-in freezer temperature may be at zero (0) degrees Fahrenheit or below.
