Summary

We love our residents! We are seeking an individual to assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals to ensure residents receive nutritious, well-presented food in a clean and sanitary environment. This position supports the dietary team by performing routine food service tasks, maintaining kitchen and dining area cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with all safety and sanitation standards. Work is performed under the supervision of dietary staff, providing valuable experience in healthcare food service operations.

Examples of duties

  • Assist in the preparation, setup, and service of meals for residents, staff, and visitors in accordance with established menus, dietary orders, and portion control standards.
  • Serve meals to residents in assigned units, ensuring that food is served at proper temperatures and in accordance with therapeutic and regular diet requirements.
  • Interact with residents during mealtimes, promoting a positive dining experience and ensuring safety, comfort, and dignity.
  • Stock food carts, refrigerators, and serving areas; monitor and record refrigerator and food temperatures as required.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, carts, work surfaces, and dining areas in compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Wash dishes, trays, and carts using proper dishwashing and sanitation procedures; ensure cleanliness of the dishwashing area.
  • Bus and wipe down tables, cupboards, and dining areas following each meal service.
  • Receive, rotate, and store food and supply deliveries in designated areas, following established inventory and labeling procedures.
  • Deliver nourishments, supplements, and other food items to nursing units as directed.
  • Assist in the preparation and service of food for meetings, activities, and special events as assigned.
  • Practice proper food handling, safety, and infection-control techniques at all times.
  • Assist cooks and dining assistants as needed to maintain an efficient workflow and ensure timely meal delivery.
  • Participate in quality improvement and training initiatives to enhance food service operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and facility needs.

Qualifications

  • Attending High school or High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in food service, hospitality, or a healthcare setting preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Working every other weekend and every other holiday is required. Must be able to commit to a minimum of two (2) days a week.
  • Must successfully complete a background check, health screening, and all required onboarding in accordance with County and State standards.
  • Must maintain ongoing compliance with continuing education, infection control, and safety training requirements.

Supplemental information

  • Work is performed primarily indoors within a healthcare facility kitchen and dining area, with occasional duties in resident service areas or storage rooms.
  • Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying food trays, cleaning supplies, or equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, move, or carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to heat, steam, humidity, cleaning chemicals, and kitchen noise occurs during normal work activities.
  • Occasional exposure to varying temperatures while moving between kitchen, storage, and delivery areas.
  • Requires visual and auditory acuity sufficient to operate kitchen equipment safely, recognize hazards, and maintain a sanitary work environment.
  • Frequent use of kitchen appliances, food service tools, dishwashing equipment, and cleaning machines.
  • Work includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays to meet resident meal service schedules.
  • Position requires adherence to all County, Health Department, and facility safety and infection control procedures.
  • Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases is considered high; personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper hygiene practices are required.
