Summary

We love our residents! Currently, we are looking for an individual to work full-time from 6am-2:30pm. The Food Service Worker I performs routine food preparation, service, and cleaning duties in support of resident meal service and special functions. Work involves assisting with the preparation and portioning of food, serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in all food service areas, and following established safety and infection control procedures. Duties are performed under close supervision and in accordance with facility policies, dietary guidelines, and state and federal regulations.

Examples of duties

  • Assist in preparing and serving food and beverage items according to established recipes, portion standards, and quality control procedures.
  • Ensure proper food handling, temperature control, and sanitation in compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and health codes.
  • Set up meal trays, dining areas, and serving lines; serve meals to residents in dining rooms or on units as assigned.
  • Prepare and portion salads, desserts, snacks, and nourishments following supervisor instructions and dietary guidelines.
  • Assist with food preparation and service for meetings, special events, or activities as directed.
  • Clean and sanitize all kitchen, dishwashing, and dining areas—including floors, equipment, and storage areas—according to cleaning schedules and department standards.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and cookware; operate dishwashing and sanitation equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Receive, inspect, and store deliveries of food and supplies, ensuring proper rotation and storage to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Practice safe work habits to prevent injury to self, coworkers, or residents; report hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Participate in departmental in-service, online, and on-the-job training as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required to meet facility and resident meal service needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Less than one (1) year of experience in food service, institutional meal preparation, or dietary work. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license.
  • Required to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
  • Must successfully complete a background check, health screening, and all required onboarding in accordance with County and State standards.
  • Must maintain ongoing compliance with continuing education, infection control, and safety training requirements.

Supplemental information

  • Work is performed primarily indoors within a healthcare facility kitchen and dining area, with occasional duties in resident service areas or storage rooms.
  • Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying food trays, cleaning supplies, or equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, move, or carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to heat, steam, humidity, cleaning chemicals, and kitchen noise occurs during normal work activities.
  • Occasional exposure to varying temperatures while moving between kitchen, storage, and delivery areas.
  • Requires visual and auditory acuity sufficient to operate kitchen equipment safely, recognize hazards, and maintain a sanitary work environment.
  • Required sensory abilities include vision, color distinction, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
  • Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges.
  • Frequent use of kitchen appliances, food service tools, dishwashing equipment, and cleaning machines.
  • Work includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays to meet resident meal service schedules.
  • Position requires adherence to all County, Health Department, and facility safety and infection control procedures.
  • Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases is considered high; personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper hygiene practices are required.
