Kent School is seeking a Food Service Worker – Deli Cook to join our Dining Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys preparing fresh, high-quality food in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and takes pride in creating an exceptional dining experience for our students, faculty, and staff.
Position Details
- Status: Full-Time, Academic (10 months) or Calendar Year (12 months)
- Classification: Staff, Non-Exempt
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
- Additional hours and schedule adjustments may be required based on departmental and School needs.
- Start Date: August 26, 2026
The Food Service Worker – Deli Cook is responsible for preparing deli meats, salads, spreads, and other menu items for daily service and special events while maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare all necessary food items for service, including slicing meats and cheeses, creating salads, and preparing spreads.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked deli station throughout service.
- Assist with the preparation of items supporting the hot line menu as needed.
- Inspect food for taste, quality, freshness, and presentation.
- Recommend improvements to enhance quality, flavor, and cost efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including proper food handling and FIFO practices.
- Take ownership of station refrigeration and storage areas, ensuring proper labeling and organization.
- Support other dining stations and perform additional duties as assigned.

- Be a team player who willingly supports colleagues and other dining operations as needed.
- Have a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience, preferably in a busy cafeteria or food service environment.
- Hold a ServSafe certification or be willing to obtain one (training will be provided if necessary).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and climb stairs.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and a drug test.
- Demonstrated punctuality and regular attendance.
- Ability to work on a smoke-free campus.
