Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Service Merchandiser is a critical component to the success of the Co-op Deli. This position is the conduit between the Makery Production Team and the retail execution in the store. The Food Service Merchandiser is responsible to deliver consistent product availability throughout the Deli Department, including deli products displayed in other departments. They oversee the merchandising, presentation and retail execution of our deli products. The Food Service Merchandiser is proficient in all positions of the Deli; is capable of providing positive, upbeat communication to deli staff on retail execution per our standards and expectation. The Food Service Merchandiser works closely with the Food Service Manager and the Director of Prepared Foods.

Wage Range $20.00-$26.00 per hour

Full-time, 11am-7:30pm, Variable days

Requirements

Primary Duties

Essential Functions

Responsible to keep the Co-op deli products sold in our store stocked and presentable

· Oversees ordering

· Works with the Food Service Team Members on how to merchandise deli products

May be directed to act as a supervisor by the Food Service Manager

Assists in quarterly inventory

Is responsible for clear, clean and accurate signage for deli merchandise

Ensures that department core items and sets are fully executed and in place at all times

· Core items and sets will be provided by the Prepared Foods Director

Serves as a liaison to the Department Manager by providing suggested adjustments to par levels based on sales trends and shrink

Holds Deli staff accountable for high retail execution

· Provides supportive training and at the moment correction to staff

Provides manager with documentation regarding situations and issues that arise

Models and enforces safe work habits and follows Food Safety Procedures

Serves as a liaison to Department Manager by providing them with objective information regarding any performance issues observed with deli staff

Understands and follows call in procedures

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

Previous leadership experience desired; background in cashiering or retail grocery/deli industry preferred

Proven ability to provide excellent, professional customer service by projecting a friendly, outgoing presence and maintaining a respectful demeanor at all times

Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm, think quickly, prioritize effectively, and problem solve within established guidelines.

Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork, compassion and constant communication are essential

Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly

Must demonstrate basic math skills

Ability to meet expectations of regular, predictable attendance

Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends

Ability to maintain current food handler card

Must be at least 18 years of age

High school diploma or equivalent

Essential Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time

Ability to lift 30 pounds often, up to 70 pounds occasionally

Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds

Able to use a ladder to access items on high shelves

Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine finger manipulation

Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezers, outdoor, etc.)

Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating

Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
