Job Description

General Purpose of Position:

Plan and prepare healthy, nutritious, well-balanced meals for the community attending various programs at The Salvation Army. Serve and clean up after the meals are served. Keep an inventory of supplies (refrigerator, freezer, and pantry), along with cooking and serving supplies (plates, cups bowls, pots, and pans).

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare healthy, nutritious, well-balanced meals for the Soup Kitchen, Shelter and Corps programs when needed.
  • Maintain the necessary health standards relevant to Food Preparation and storage (gloves and hairnets).
  • Keep an inventory of food, cooking and serving supplies and inform supervisor of any needs relevant to food service.
  • Work with volunteers and Community Service Workers in the preparation and clean-up for the Community Meals Program (Soup Kitchen).
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, pantry, walk-in cooler, and freezer daily/weekly.
  • Maintain the count of meals served and any food items given away daily. Give the statistics to the Shelter Manager monthly.
  • Receive and record all food donations.
  • Responsible for rotating donations that come in on Mondays and Thursdays.
  • Responsible for distributing food donations to the community at the Soup Kitchen.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of assigned volunteers or Community Service Workers when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food and health, safety and nutrition
  • Experience in cooking for large groups

Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses:

  • *Serve Safe training as required
