The Food Service Clerk performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that supports San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in wildlife care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Food Service Clerk under supervision, prepares, serves and sells food items while providing outstanding guest service. This position reports to the Retail Management.
A Food Service Clerk is assigned and responsible for one or more areas of food preparation, service, sales and maintenance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Prepares and sells food items
• Maintains a safe and sanitary work area, practices safe food handling procedures
• Operates point of sale system, handles and tenders a variety of sales transactions including cash, proactive to suggestive selling
• Provides outstanding guest service, greets guests, professionally handles difficult situations with employees or guests
• Assists with the daily set-up, closure, and cleaning of assigned location, stocks all necessary food items and supplies, assists with ordering
• Operates food service equipment and machines safely
• Ability to learn wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
• RBS Certification within 30 Days required.
• Food Handler's Card within 30 Days required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of:
• Methods, materials and equipment used in food service
• Food presentation and portion control of food items served in their location
• Basic inventory controls and best practices
• Basic usage and care of standard kitchen equipment and utensils
• Safety rules and regulations
• Guest service standards and policies and uniform standards
Ability to:
• Operate food service equipment and machines safely
• Operate a cash register accurately and effectively
• Operate assigned tools and equipment safely
• Multi-task and prioritize to meet the demands of business
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written)
• Deal tactfully and courteously with guests and employees
• Work effectively in a team environment
• Understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions
• Work in a high volume, fast-paced environment

• Position Type: Hourly Part-Time Non-Exempt Union Seasonal Position - If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the union
• Hourly Rate: $19.50

The posted salary range represents the full compensation potential for this role over time. Initial hiring offers are typically made within the lower to mid portion of the range and are based on a combination of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and organizational considerations. Placement near the top of the range is generally reserved for individuals who demonstrate sustained performance, growth, and expanded responsibilities in the role over time.
