We are seeking a customer-focused Cashier / Food Service Retail Associate to provide exceptional service while ensuring accurate and compliant cash-handling practices within our retail dining environment. This role is responsible for processing transactions, reconciling cash drawers, maintaining financial accuracy, supporting food service operations, and creating a positive experience for patients, visitors, and team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and accurately process cash, credit cards, dining cards, meal vouchers, and other approved payment methods.
  • Balance and reconcile cash drawers, daily receipts, and transactions in accordance with departmental policies and financial controls.
  • Verify cash transactions using counterfeit detection procedures for bills of $20 or more.
  • Maintain cash-handling accuracy standards and promptly report any discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot basic POS, electronic scale, and credit card reader issues.
  • Follow downtime procedures to ensure uninterrupted customer service when systems are unavailable.
  • Provide courteous, efficient, and professional service to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assist with food and beverage preparation, assembly, serving, and merchandising.
  • Restock and sanitize beverage stations, grab-and-go refrigerators, and condiment areas.
  • Promote daily specials and contribute ideas to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Support cafeteria operations by monitoring service areas and helping ensure daily tasks are completed.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, sanitation, safety, and workplace compliance standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred:

  • Six months of cashier, retail, food service, or customer service experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of cash-handling procedures and financial accountability.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot POS systems and related equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills with a patient-first mindset.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Work Environment

  • Frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, food service equipment, and healthcare environments.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases consistent with a healthcare setting.

This position has a starting rate of $18.57 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.74 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $22.79 per hour.

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
