When we do everything in service of our patients and caregivers, no detail gets ignored, andAkron General understands that part of staying well is keeping up with nutritional needs.As a Food Service Aide, you willbe responsible forproper food handling, portioning, serving,preparingand cooking food.This is a great hands-on experience that will allow youtoprovideforand care forour patients in a way other than nursing.

A caregiver in this position workseveningsfrom11:00AM – 7:30PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Accurately dish up,portionout, assemble, weigh, measure and serve fooditemsaccording to the production sheet, menu, setupdiagramsor other communications.

  • Prepare quality food itemsin accordance withproduction sheets,recipesand menus.

  • Operatekitchen equipment necessary to perform tasks, such as food processing and preparation equipment.

  • Prepare food on the grill, inovensor usinginduction stoves.

  • Prepare cold food items and prepare vegetables.

  • Assistthe cook.

  • Assemble, transport, pickupand disassemblepatient trays

  • Assistin preparing, serving, settingupand cleaning up special dinners and luncheons for meetings.

  • Follow proper sanitation procedures andmaintainand leave a clean,sanitizedand organized work area.

  • Practice proper food handling techniques and the “clean as you go” policy.

  • Disassemble patient trays according to dish room and infection control procedures.

  • Load and unload the dish machine.

  • Report any failures or malfunctioning equipment or utilities to a supervisorimmediately

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchoolDiplomaor GED

  • Experience in food service or the ability to performfood service general duties

  • Ability to measure/weigh, add/subtract and multiply/divide during food preparation

  • Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal directions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in hot kitchen around hot equipment and a variety of other potential hazards ranging from spills on floors to sharp cutting equipment (knives, slicer). Ability to withstand changes in work environment temperatures (hot kitchen to cooler).
  • An insensitivity to allergic reactions to required sanitation chemicals, gloves, food and supplies used and essential to the job.
  • Ability to work in wet environment with hands frequently exposed to water.
  • Must have physical qualifications to walk, stand for extended periods of time, as well as entering walk-in coolers and freezers to obtain needed products, with assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
